That is an an understatement.

Come to think of it, haven't we seen more AdLib Golds and Creative 3D Blasters surface in the last few years than we've seen original Pro Audio Spectrums?

Well, we do have Hard1k and Artex, so it makes sense. Still, I don't think the 8 bit PAS are as rare as MCA audio cards.

I've see more MCA audio cards show up for sale than 8-bit PAS... as in, This is the only 8-bit PAS I have seen for sale at my normal hunting places compared to MCA cards.

There are 4 different sellers that have the MCA m-acpa sound card listed on eBay right now.

I think I've seen at least one of the MCA Sound Blaster cards for sale. But then again, I don't really keep an eye out for MCA stuff either so I probably missed some.

The MCA cards tend to go for crazy high prices as well.

Granted, there is a lot less to choose from for MCA systems.
http://ohlandl.ipv7.net/sound/sound_index.html

I just don't have any real desire to have an MCA system. Not enough different available hardware compared to other setups.
I did have an IBM MCA system given to me about 20 years ago, but back then I couldn't find anything to help me get it going so I am pretty sure it got scrapped.
Pretty sure it was a pretty tall and super heavy tower. Nothing really exciting as far as actual hardware goes.

Got myself this cute lil' Sony 9042QM monitor, well, I bought it on the 9th of January, and it only arrived today, it came from all the way in Italy.

This unit is dated from January 2002, and it's in very good condition, the tube looks brand new.

sweet!
speaking of PVM, coincidentally I picked up this PVM 2054qm today 10 minutes from my place... sometimes I do still get lucky on the local classifieds, I was also lucky being this close, because a ton of people had already declared interest, but I quickly drove over and picked it up, the logo was missing in the ad, but we found it hiding under the sofa ^^
there was also the edge of something else in the corner of the picture from the ad... so I asked if it was also for sale, a Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 230SB : D ...this one doesn't seem to have any convergence issues, only the geometry is ever so slightly off in the bottom right corner, unfortunately there seems to be a scratch on the front glass, I wonder if that can be polished out or if there are any coatings on there that would get destroyed : /

I keep eyeing on a Sony PVM of the same size at a local electronics recycling center/thrift store. Don't know the price, but it'll be worth it (and lots of RCA to BNC adapters and 75 Ohm resistor BNCs for the RGBs line).

My PVM-9L1 does really nice with my Commodore 64. 2 years ago, I hooked up my old 26" Vizio HDTV, 19" Toshiba TV/VCR combo, and my PVM-9L1 using my DVD recorder that has HDMI, composite, s-video-, and component out so that I can watch local stations on all 3 TV sets, game on all 3 of them, and watch VHS tapes on all 3 of them. Surprisingly, it turned out really well.

get it, you won't regret it, and the large PVMs aren't getting any less rare/cheaper nowadays.
I use an extron USP405 scaler/scan converter and I have to say that PC output also looks really nice on a PVM, I already have a PVM 20m4e, unfortunately also with a scratch across the glass (that seems to be a recurring theme x3) but I got that one from a friend for really cheap so I am not complaining.

[single board computer]

Looks like there's two different series of caps there. I bet you can tell which are which. Luckily they look pretty easy to replace.

Neat board! VIA C3/1GHz if the sticker is to be believed. It has the DOS-compatible 686b audio (as long as the BIOS options are present) so you should be good for a compact "one card" build. You can run it without a backplane.

the ram on that STB TNT is interesting, 4 kinds of different markings, batch number?

edit: wait, that is a new one? didn't you make that mistake once already? ^^
that's a still a Riva TNT, not a voodoo 3

did I look at the wrong picture?
I could swear there was a picture of the TNT just there x3, the card in the pile is indeed a voodoo 3

according to google the SBC has a via C3 1Ghz
I could take that off you if you don't want to fix it *wink*

Good observation, Imi 😉 I still had the TNT from the last lot on my desk as its a good and cheap card for testing purposes and took another photo of it. Replaced the photo now...now its the V3 from todays lot.

Unsure if I like to keep the SBC. It looks really nice, also because of the integrated CF-reader. On the other hand I dont have time for the cap exchange and its much too modern to fit in a retro collection...

I'm betting Nichicon HM or HN. The good caps looks like Pannys.

Bought a mint condition Nintendo Wii, with two controllers and two nunchuck's and the stand for 5 US Dollars. (including shipping)
Wii sports came along with the console, and it was even factory reset.

they're KZG according to the markings

Nippon / United Chemi-con KZG and KZJ series parts were defective in design and have a 100% failure rate.

^^

Pretty much all the ultra low ESR cap series were problematic. I should have known by the vent and by the wrapper that says "KZG". C'est la vie.

FIC VA-502 and Chaintech 6VTA3 with YMF740C

these are a lot nicer than the boards that I usually get from scrap lots, and weren't even that expensive all in all. ^^

Now you just need to hack it so you can install the HomeBrew channel on it, etc, etc.

I think I will pass on that. I much prefer to keep it as original as possible.
Games are not that expensive anyway, and I have a RaspberryPI for emulation.
