Those cases were produced in Australia by "Micro Accessories, S.A." (Adelaide), but they were sold worldwide. Definitely aftermarket.

I found some pics of the one I had (which doesn't look like it's bjwil1991's, since that one had JiffyDOS fitted and a white keyboard. Kind of wish I'd hung onto it now.)

Then people have reported it wrongfully, as the standard and stock case, that the Model-C was sold with in Australia. The places that I have picked up on that case on, is dedicated Commodore64 websites. Can this perhaps be an urban legend then?

It's listed in a few pages as "C64 - Australian", e.g. here and here, but at least that first link makes clear it's an aftermarket product. Might just be an instance of lazy reading being turned into internet scuttlebutt.

FWIW I found my original thread about it on Lemon64 where a few members chimed in with some more info. (Also, holy shit, I chose "Rave-o-tron" as a throwaway forum name? Cringe level: masterclass.)

I've removed my 486 40Mhz Cyrix CPU and installed an AMD 386 40Mhz CPU with corresponding coprocessor. I really wanted a 386 system. It works just a little slower than before, which is great for older games.

@xjas I bought the system off of eBay 2 years ago and the system had some other chips that were socketed and the rest are still soldered to the board. In the future, I'll be adding sockets to every chip on the board and in case one of the chips gets fried, I can swap it easily. If I get a 1541 drive or something else, like the 1541 Ultimate II+, I'll be putting JiffyDOS on there for the floppy drive instead of the C64 since JiffyDOS disables the datasette port if I want to play datasette games. Fortunately, my C64 works without issues and I am using a serviceable PSU supplied by Commodore4Ever on eBay and I have 2 Atari 2600 controllers for the system. Only things I need are games, datasette, and floppy drive (or drive emulators that are 100% compatible).

That's not how JiffyDOS works. It must be installed in the drive *and* the C64, otherwise nothing will happen.

My 1983 C64 Rev. B came with JiffyDOS as well. Removed it and put the original ROM back in, since I don't like having no way to load tapes either.

I've been watching a couple of auction sites for turtle beach cards.

A noti grabbed my attention from which I could see a boxed multisound classic and two other ancient TB cards. It had manuals, disks, and cables. Most importantly, the price was close to good. All naturally, subduing my utmost excitement, I sent a few questions to the owner.

By the time I finished sending my message, the whole deal was a goner.

On the other hand, C64's seem intended to be modded, and the one I have now will need some maintenance anyway (recap maybe, heatsinks, etc).

I was always considering a kernal mod, but opted for the safer/neater option instead - the EasyFlash 3 cartridge. I mostly use JiffyDOS on that cartridge, but for fun I've also flashed Kernal ROM images of things like the SX-64 ROM & Japanese C64 ROM etc.

Today I received a few retro goodies to test out. The first was a new ULA for my Sinclair ZX81, to replace the 2C18 -

The new ULA crucially adds the missing "back porch" so I can actually connect it to more equipment. I need to do some more experimenting with different equipment, but for now I've got it running great on an old 32" LCD TV, just via RF and no composite mods -

Also today received a Joystick adapter for the Acorn Electron. Not working at the moment, just gets me a white screen and no boot. I'll need to do more investigation, possibly a PSU issue as I'm not using the original one.

Also received some Parity SIMM memory to test on a 486 motherboard. It no longer gives me the memory error beeps, but the screen turns on and simply displays nothing. Some playing around with jumpers necessary I think.

Installed and tested the MS Force Feedback Pro joystick on my newly set up Pentium III retro build. Works fantastic! Only had two games installed so far (Forsaken and NFS4) and was quite surprised that both have Force Feedback support. NFS4 is just awesome with Force Feedback. I own the Force Feedback Wheel as well and that one will probably be even better. Have to give it a good clean first before using, though.

Speaking of joysticks, I swear I had one for games like Flight Simulator and X-Wing vs TiE Fighter in the past. I cant remember where I left it...

There are gameport-to-USB adapters, so it wouldn't be unusable - should you ever find it. 😉

Oh, yeah, I forgot about the adapters. First I need to find the joystick 😜
