Just a few pictures of some goodies for my Dimension95 project.

First up - NOS Promise IDE Caddies & Controller Card.

1 x TX2000 Pro, which includes a FastTrak TX2000 Card & two SuperSwap 1000 Caddies

Second - not exactly retro hardware, but for retro hardware. Capacitors for a recap of my Sound Blaster 16 CT2290

Recieved heatsinks and a Wii game in the mail today. Nothing special, so no pictures.
The game is called Wii-Play. (Fishing, duck shooting, cow riding and so on)

Why not? These things are pretty overclockable.

Isn't the 8088 and 8087 running asynchronous clock? Or wasn't that until the 386/387 that was implemented?

That was only on the 286, where the 287 did run with 2/3 of the CPU clock.

A retro related purchase - just bought 4 Cherry microswitches to replace damaged & worn microswitches in an old Cruiser Joystick. I've been wanting to get around to fixing that joystick for some time and after testing the wires inside to ensure they're all working ok, I decided to go ahead and replace the microswitches. Plus new switches are quite cheap, so not breaking the bank.

Not sure how good the Cherry microswitches are vs some other slightly more costly brands, but they should be a vast improvement over the terribly worn ones currently inside the joystick. 😁

What kind of symptoms did the stick display?

I just got this (not my picture, though) Competition Pro PC Stick yesterday. I haven't run joystick testing software yet, but it's spazzing out in a couple of games (Dangerous Dave 2, Mach 3, Commander Keen 4) where it registers button presses if I move the stick to the upper left corner. In Prince of Persia it seemed to behave normal, though. The switches feel nice and clicky still, I guess it could be an issue with the wiring too.

The switches themselves are barely clicky anymore and the joystick generally feels stiff to use due to the extra force required to make contact with the switches, even with the stick set at it's loosest setting.

Plus they'd stop working randomly if the joystick was stored away for a while and I'd have to open it up and slightly bend the terminals on the switches inwards to restore function. Whoever owned this joystick before me in the past certainly put it through it's paces!

The fire buttons microswitch is still in good working order, it's about the only thing that is.

Yeah, it could be the wiring. Though odd that it works in some games and not others. Does the gameport itself work ok with other controllers?

Set of brand new cpu coolers (besides Titan Golden orb which I already had) + also brand new Socket 423 Titan cooler which I got by accident (not sure what I'm going to do with it).
All of them ~12$ - wonder if its a good or not so good deal...

I cannot recognise this weird Golden Orb which is like yet another clone of Thermaltake product.
I wonder which will fit Socket 7 on my P5A.

Basically for S370 I use radiator from Volcano 7+ - however its crazy heavy.

Just received a SB16 CT2290 in the mail!

I got quite a few things in the mail today.. I'll list them from boring to exciting:

A S3 Trio3D/2X as a possible primary card for mySuper Socket7 Voodoo 2 SLI build.

An ATI Rage 128 Pro as a possible primary card for mySuper Socket7 Voodoo 2 SLI build.

A Cirrus Logic CL-GD5401 (Acumos AVGA01) ISA VGA

A Biostar MB-8433UUD-A VER:2 Socket 3 motherboard (As far as I can tell it is one of the better 486 PCI motherboards out there, but the Dallas RTC is dead and soldered on 🙁 I'll need to replace it with a socket, and later a working Dallas RTC (or mod this one for an external coin cell..))

The strange thing about this motherboard is, it came with 1 16MB and 4 4MB SIMMs, and it POSTs with 28MB memory. I never thought these kinds of motherboards accepted mismatched RAM in the same bank?

And the star of the show, an IBM 5x86C 100MHz. This is the reason I bought the above motherboard - there was a POST screenshot on the listing that said Cyrix 5x86 100MHz so I immediately grabbed it for $20. It works, but has a weird twist:

The pins are either corroded (never saw this happen before) or covered with a strange black substance.. Brushing the pins under running water got rid of some of it but not these that remain. Not sure how to tackle cleaning this, or whether I should even attempt..

Indeed. It does not. But you have 4 RAM banks (like most 486 boards do) 😀

Found a Quickpad Pro at a local goodwill.

Had no idea what it was, I assumed it was one of those dedicated word processors that were popular-ish back in the 90's but when I brought it home and started researching it I was pleasantly surprised to discover it's an MS-DOS compatible mini laptop.

Sadly it's an extremely non-standard resolution of 60x16 characters (640x128 pixels) so the utility is greatly limited, but it's pretty neat to stumble across regardless.

Was doing a really broad search on eBay and ran across a seller that has some PC/104 audio/video boards so I bought one.
The sound chip is a Crystal CS4236B so it should work great for a retro PC/104 build.

No idea what the video is. And it doesn't have a VGA out port. I'll have to try to look it up later and edit my post.

YUV output, is SoundBlaster-compatible, and includes an optional dual-PCMCIA controller.

Could you do me a favor and image those disks in IMA format? Make sure to write protect the disks before sticking them into a drive. I also have a MWave card sitting in a box with zero docs or software. Would greatly appreciate it.

TBH, I'm not even sure those disks will help me, but it's worth a shot. This is the card I have.

There is a known bug with ATI rage 128 and SS7 it crashed the system. You need a special driver.

Yep, will do. I've already got an couple different MWave cards including the same one you have.

I do have some drivers already but everything I could find about them said that they were super hard to set up with what was available and I haven't bothered messing with them because of that.
