Hello everyone,
Now about 40years ago, on August 20th 1977, Voyager 2 was launched into space.
Followed by its sister, Voyager 1 on September 5th 1977, both probes started
their journey throughout the solar system into deep space.
Their golden records contain greetings in 55 languages,
sounds of nature and living beeings, music and 115 pictures.
And a message from human kind: "This is a present from a small, distant world, a token of
our sounds, our science, our images, our music, our thoughts and our feelings.
We are attempting to survive our time so we may live into yours.[..]"
As of today, Voyager 2 is still listening to the declining solar wind;
transmitting a status report every once in a week. Back home, to earth.
Both probes are currently leaving solar system, with Voyager 1 beeing the
first man-made craft entering interstellar space.

05.03.1979: Voyager 1 approaches Jupiter
09.07.1979: followed by Voyager 2
11.11.1980: Voyager 1 approaches Saturn
25.08.1981: followed by Voyager 2
Feb. 1990 : Voyager 1 looks back and takes a family photo of six planets,
while also taking a last picture of earth
16.12.2004: Voyager 1 approaches solar system's outer frontier
30.08.2007: followed by Voyager 2
Currently, the Voyager probes are expected to retain operational until at least 2020,
with their mission expected to end in 2025.
