Hello everyone,

Now about 40years ago, on August 20th 1977, Voyager 2 was launched into space.
Followed by its sister, Voyager 1 on September 5th 1977, both probes started
their journey throughout the solar system into deep space.

Their golden records contain greetings in 55 languages,
sounds of nature and living beeings, music and 115 pictures.
And a message from human kind: "This is a present from a small, distant world, a token of
our sounds, our science, our images, our music, our thoughts and our feelings.
We are attempting to survive our time so we may live into yours.
[..]"

As of today, Voyager 2 is still listening to the declining solar wind;
transmitting a status report every once in a week. Back home, to earth.

Both probes are currently leaving solar system, with Voyager 1 beeing the
first man-made craft entering interstellar space.

-Voyager highlights-
05.03.1979: Voyager 1 approaches Jupiter
09.07.1979: followed by Voyager 2
11.11.1980: Voyager 1 approaches Saturn
25.08.1981: followed by Voyager 2
Feb. 1990 : Voyager 1 looks back and takes a family photo of six planets,
while also taking a last picture of earth
16.12.2004: Voyager 1 approaches solar system's outer frontier
30.08.2007: followed by Voyager 2

Currently, the Voyager probes are expected to retain operational until at least 2020,
with their mission expected to end in 2025.

It just makes me sad to see all the intellectually and morally bankrupt wank stains in office run this world into the ground. We used to look to the stars and dream of a better future, now we stare at "phones" comparing our lives to others as the world burns.

If any extraterrestrial life came to earth, 5 minutes looking at the state we are in, they'd just pass us by and colonize the place after we've killed ourselves.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Sometimes I feel the same. 😢 *sigh*
On the bright side, though, astronautics in itself is still life and sound.
New satellites for amateur radio and other services are still being build by students, etc.

But yeah, I also miss euphorias of that so called "space age" or what was left of it afterwards.
When my father was little, he said, he often read the scifi novels of Perry Rhodan.
- One of the few things/interests he and his own father enjoyed together.

Quick update. Jan 30th, 2020 (news) - Voyager 2 did shut down after an error occured.
https://www.technologyreview.com/f/615121/nas … ts-instruments/

Edit: Update. According to some German news site, the shut off likely occured during a calibration maneuver.
The software of the on-board computer(s) registered a power peak and thus instantly did shut down all scientific instruments off for compensation.

I feel old....

(I was born just a little over one and a half years before Voyager 2 was launched)

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.
Those cakes make you sick....

Probably bad caps.

More likely that the fuel is nearly depleted. That is why they shut down instruments, one by one through the years.

Isn't it solar powered? Electronics failing due to radioactivity is a more probable cause methinks..
