As the heading suggests, I'm looking for drivers for a Cirrus Logic CL-GD5434 card for Windows 95. I've tried installing it with just the Windows CD as well as different drivers I've found, most of which seem to be for Windows 3.1. No dice.

Does anyone else have any experience with getting this card to run on a Windows 95 machine?

http://www.video-drivers.com/companies/216.htm looks to have W95 drivers, but they wish you to download their stuff. It's seems to be SP2894.exe which I found @ http://tcshavasu.com/Manufacturers/Compaq/DIR182/

I have a driver in my archives that also may work, is for Cirrus Logic 5430 PCI, 5434 PCI, 5436 PCI and 5440 PCI. If you are using a VLB card it may or may not work.

added: Let us know if a file works so it can be added to Vogans Library, thanks

Just woke up like a kid on Christmas Day! Just need to get some coffee and then I'll try these out! I'll get back with the results. Thanks for helping!

These worked! Had a minor issue with Windows appearing in a shade of green after first reboot, but that most likely had nothing to do with the drivers and was sorted after a second reboot. It's been appearing correct on every subsequent reboot, so I'd say we're good!

I considered these yesteday, but felt hesitant about the exe file, so I havn't tried them. And now there is really no need. But thanks to both of you!

And I forgot to mention that this is indeed a PCI card.

When I looked at the .INF file it only seems to be for Cirrus Logic 5430, the others are in the [Strings] section, but not in the [Mfg]

[Mfg]
%PCI\VEN_1013&DEV_00A0.DeviceDesc%=Driver.Install, PCI\VEN_1013&DEV_00A0

[Strings]
Mfg="Cirrus Logic"
PCI\VEN_1013&DEV_00A0.DeviceDesc="Cirrus Logic 5430/M30/40/M40 PCI"
PCI\VEN_1013&DEV_00A8.DeviceDesc="Cirrus Logic 5434 PCI"
PCI\VEN_1013&DEV_00AC.DeviceDesc="Cirrus Logic 5436 PCI"

What is the PCI Device ID of your card? I suspect you may need to add a couple more lines to the [Mfg] section, I suspect:

%PCI\VEN_1013&DEV_00A8.DeviceDesc%=Driver.Install, PCI\VEN_1013&DEV_00A8
%PCI\VEN_1013&DEV_00AC.DeviceDesc%=Driver.Install, PCI\VEN_1013&DEV_00AC

Windows 95B has them included. Maybe also original release, but I haven't tried.

CL GD-5434 is a chipset from early 1994 and was used for ISA, VLB and PCI cards.

Requests are also possible... /msg kixs

I don't know 😒 How can I find out?

There are several ways, one is to run my SIV utility (See SIV support for 386/486/586 class + Alpha CPUs and 3dfx + S3 + SiS + Matrox + XGI + old ATI + NVidia GPUs - Testing Help, grab SIV32L.zip) and press the [ PCI Bus ] button, doing this should display all the PCI devices. On this system I get:

file.php?id=77030

Ok, cool! You were right in that not everything seems to be in order (yet). On closer inspection I found that Windows doesn't properly recognize the card (see first attachment).

Anyway, I used your software and if I understand this correctly the ID should be 1013-00A8-00000000-8E (second attachment). But how do I use this in the .INF file? This is way above my head btw, if that wasn't obvious 😀

Can you remove the driver and delete the 5440.inf then use the attached .inf and reinstall the driver please ?

I see Horun has updated the .INF for your GPU. I compared before with after and the additions look correct to me.

Fingers crossed that it now runs OK

Thanks but I missed editing a copy line, think it would have errored. Updated the file.

Oops, I missed that as I was only really looking for the missing [Mfg] entries. All in all I find .INF files far from obvious and it usually takes me a couple of attempts. As least with W9x you don't need M$ to counter sign them before the drivers will load on a W10 secure boot system 😀

I'm back! Tried the updated .INF and it seems to work just fine! Windows recognizes the correct model now and everything seems to be in order 😀

Thanks so much to both of you for spending time helping me out. And hopefully this will be helpful to someone else as well!

looks to have W95 drivers, but they wish you to download their stuff.

Unfortunately, that sh*tty site does not provide any drivers. Only sleazy DriverEasy utility, which is an obvious scam.

100% agree !!! There is a few other websites that do same exact thing.
At least at DriverGuide you can download stuff w/o their "driverfinder.exe" crap if you know how.
