You need SIPP modules for this one. In addition the bottom slot might be a slot for some proprietary RAM upgrade card.

If you don't have any SIPPs you can always solder pins to a 30 pin SIMMs...

Or use 30-pin SIMM sockets to convert SIMMs to SIPPs

Bought a MiTAC IH4077H board that needs a lot of things done (battery removal, corrosion removal, trace repairs, and other things) for a fair price.

Corrosion from the keyboard port to the floppy connector and the corrosion stops at the top SIMM-72 slot. This will be getting a recap (if needed or will need to), new resistors, and jumpers, plus the floppy, RS-232, and parallel connectors or get a VLB I/O card.

First post - but not first time around Vogons. 😀

I was given a PC a random the other week, and had to squeal with glee when I opened it. Pentium III 500 Katmai, Voodoo3 2000 AGP, SB Awe64 CT4380! Board is a DFI and I found a BIOS update for large drive support; it's on a 440 chipset but off the top of my head I don't have model number of board or chip (I think 440BX?).

I have yet to fully finish cleaning and taking care of it, but it makes me happy...and it was free.

I know you folks will appreciate it. 😀 I'll get more pics as I clean it up and learn more.

The first system I remember great detail of was my Celeron 533A on Slotket adapter into I think a P3V4X? Started with a SiS6326 vid card, but later traded a DVD Burner and 64 MB of RAM for a Voodoo5 5500. That was my machine from late Win 98 through early Win XP; too bad it has been lost to time and the 5500 is gone forever. 🙁

You also have a tape streamer in there. Being a HP model, media might still be available.

Yeah, that old HP Colorado Travan 1000 might work - but it wasn't connected to anything. Looks like it *should* connect to the floppy interface, but I don't have instructions and quick research found "how to use" guides, but no "how to install" guides.

95% sure my dad has two or three and all the documentation. I was born in '85 and he worked in electronics for Ford through my entire childhood, so there was always stuff around. 😁

Another card showed up today!

Media Vision Pro Audio 16 IXW-SCSI 1-1. Quite looking forward to testing this one out.

Yeah, I was also wondering since it doesn't have the white logo. It has double-sigma though, and if I remember the FPO codes correct it would be from W07 of 1988?

These are actually newer, not older. Copyright on them is 1986, the ones with the while logo have a copyright of 1985. I guess they were for OEMs.

Got a very nice deal on a SBLive 5.1 and an Audigy1 front panel, which is compatible with it.

Tested both and they work flawlessly.

Got a BFG FX 5950 Ultra a few days ago.

The fans are toast and of course new ones are not available.. plus the stock cooler kinda sucks, so I got this:
A Zalman Z-Machine GV1000 - checked the weight vs the older copper VF1000 and it actually weighs a tiny bit more.
This means it has copper with I am guessing electroplating of some sort... Nickel or Crhome?

Pretty sure I will build a Win98SE machine based around this card.

i never liked those stock coolers and i don't know what they were thinking with only 3 mounting bolts.
the slightest bit of board warp and you'd lose proper contact with the gpu.
even if those fans worked you'd still want to replace it.
the fans on my asus card worked fine but, i could not get the thing to cool properly.
i'm using the artic cooling nv4 rev 2 and it works well but, i think i like your zalman better. might have to give that a try instead.

I checked the reviews of the Zalman and although I don't like the fact that there is a single fan in the middle that doesn't actually cool the fins near the heatpipes, especailly the outside heatpipes, the VF1000 did cool a GTS250 and X1950XTX just fine which are higher power draw cards. It is even rated for the 8800Ultra. The only real difference between the VF1000 and the GV1000 is that the fan of the GV1000 has a higher max rpm.

I kinda wanted to use an Arctic Accellero S1 or S1 v2, but they would have taken up more space and not really required for something like this... They work great on an 8800Ultra. I do recommend a fan to help cool the S1 coolers.

I acquired the ASUS V9950 (GeForce FX 5900 Ultra) some time ago and one of the fans was dead, the other one dying... so I spent what felt like hours on eBay and AliExpress to track down a replacement with the right mounting holes. Finally found it, ordered it, waited for it to arrive from China, replaced it - and the thing is still loud as hell. Very disappointing.
Now I am on the lookout for a Zalman VF900 Cu, Arctic Silencer NV 4 or similar, too.
Your "Z-Machine GV1000" surely looks promising, so I'll include that in my search 😄
