Not an Amiga mouse, but I purchased a PS/2 adapter converter for it.

With the adapter, does a regular PS/2 mouse work ok in games that support a mouse?

Congrats... It is a fine looking old lady you got there. I guess a Revision 6a? Else it is Revision 5.

Not gonna lie, I really dig the dust cover. Is it a thick plastic or some sort of faux/real leather?

I also finally won an auction for an Amiga 1200 last night. Aside from ordering an RGB SCART cable I think it has everything I need to get started. I'll report more when it arrives. In the interim, I'm going to peruse the previous Amiga threads for valuable information. Maybe it's worth starting a newer Amiga mega-thread, maybe not.

Congrats.... I want an 1200 as well. Just can't seem to get my hands on one for a decent price.
There have been many treads about Amiga (I am to blame for a few of those), yet it seems as it always run out.
What we need, is a sub-forum for Mac (as it is big, duh') and then a sub-forum for non-PC/Mac stuff.
Or just a forum for Atari/Commodore/Sinclair/BBC or something like that.

To be honest it was originally a mistaken purchase. By the time I'd noticed my error, I'd already purchased it.

But I'm not going to resell it as it will be a nice fit should I ever get around to building a DX4 + VLB system at some point in the next couple of years. I pretty much just need a case + suitable motherboard to complete that build now.

I have one that are close to that card. For some reason, I actually like the Vibra16's. That is IF, and only IF, they have an OPL-Chip on them.
The one that I have, are PNP-Only, and the sound are cleaner than on a SB16 card. The sound comes off more detailed on my card.
The downside is the lack of a mixer, yet I use a real stereo-system amplifier and good speakers, so I just use the amp to control bass and so on.

I am assuming you got a mouse with the thing correct?

My first Amiga was an A500 with 512K trapdoor RAM/RTC, an external Amiga 1011 floppy drive plus a Workbench 1.3 disk allowing me to use Amiga Explorer to make working game disks using a PC and serial cable. Fun little gaming machine that started me collecting other Amigas since. Kind of a shame prices started to skyrocket after I got into them but I was lucky enough to snag 70+ classic Amiga boxed games for a couple bucks each back in the very early 2000's when they were being dumped.

Not an Amiga mouse, but I purchased a PS/2 adapter converter for it.

Smart. I had to buy new micro switches for a few of my original Amiga mice plus paid $20 a long time ago for a NIB Amiga/ST mouse. Keyboards are another issue when collecting big box Amigas.

28 Euro for this optical.... I think it is fair.

4x 16MB FP to bump my UMC system up to 64MB so I can run Ultima 7 from ramdrive. Not entirely realistic in terms of what would have been available in the day, but back then had a 386-16 with 4MB RAM and slow ESDI drive and definitely do NOT want to recreate that experience.

Stopped at local SA thrift store, nothing really old but a Vostro 200 for $8 and got it 50% off (and it works after typical cleanup). Not really vintage but soon a s775 will be. Also an original AM2 heatsink+fan never used still in the original box. Cost same as the computer 🤣

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

The board has no EDO support I presume? Neither does my UMC U5S-33 VLB system, and I have 3 16MB FPM sticks lying about, so in theory I could also try this with 40MB (2x16+2x4) or 48MB (3x16).. Let us know how well that works 😁

Nope. It has the UM8498F chipset which doesn't support EDO. It will boot with EDO, but the system is highly unstable and crashes within minutes.

That's £, not Euro. And you pay for shipping as well.

I use cheap optical ps/2 mice that I converted to be Amiga-compatible.

Sorry. My mistake. Yes. Pounds.
I just think it is a good price. Somewhat the same as a NOS never opened serial ball mouse for PC. And this one is optical.

Speqking of optical. Have you seen those laser mouse uogrades for original Commodore mice? They are not cheap, yet you get an optical tank mouse. I can not remember the dpi of it. Think it is 600 or 800.

Yes, I think there are even two of these laser upgrades for the tank mouse. I wanted to buy one when it was announced back then, but it was too pricey.

Later, I was able to score a large lot of cheap NOS PS/2 mice based on the OM02 chip. These work on the Amiga by simply rewire them - you can even use the wheel as a 3rd button if you use a 9-wire cable. So I have plenty of new optical mice for my Amigas now. They work on Atari ST and Acorn Archimedes as well when wired accordingly. 😀

Wait, just to make sure i have a correct understanding: The 9 pin connector for those amigas and ataris does not mean those mice are capable of being ordinary serial mice for old PCs?

Because if those are optical mice that support serial interface, then... i want to talk with you in ps! 😀

No, they are not serial. Both the Amiga and Atari ST use a simple bus mouse with no protocol and no data processing done by the mouse itself. But the OM02 chip in the PS/2 mice mentioned above do provide the legacy quadrature signals needed for Amiga/Atari and you can just grab them before they go into the second chip that implements the PS/2 protocol.

Spotted this one, put in a low offer and to my surprise I got it 😀

Comes with a docking station (serial+parallel) and a sleeve/bag.

Keys are really really tiny!

I hope it works, need to find an adapter. Should not be to hard, 15V center positive barrel.

Does anybody know if there is a RTC/CMOS battery inside that might leak?

Nice find! This Libretto is a little more sturdy (and more hard to come by) than the EU/US models. The top shell on Librettos made for the local Japan market is made out of the same alloy as the bottom, while the EU/US models feature a plastic top shell. The plastic of this age cracks a lot and eventually bends outwards, while the alloy persists!

The battery inside is a 2.4V NiCd. Unlike earlier 486 Librettos, the battery is packed in a plastic niche inside the bottom shell that somewhat protects the mainboard, so you don't really have to hurry. Varta 2/V15H batteries represent a compatible replacement. The connector is a little different though, 2-pin vs. 3-pin, so you'll have to keep the old one if you want to replace the battery. Changing the connector is very easy and requires only a sharp needle to drive the contacts out of plastic.

Thank you for the explanation.

Got this in the mail today:

IMG_20200305_165816926.jpg

A REALmagic DVD/MPEG2 decoder card. This is actually the third one I own now, but the first one that includes the cables.

Also cool, this box was used for shipping:

IMG_20200305_165822432.jpg

I have exactly that card in my collection, so that one is now boxed (for free). 😁
