I just installed Diablo 2 from my original CDs to one of my retro PCs. The original version seemed to have glide support at least and eax support and it is only for win95/win98.
I know that newest versions of diablo 2 don't even support windows xp so it seems system requirements have changed.

Anyone has any inf0rmation on diablo 2 versions and when it stopped working on old OS/hardware?
Like what is the last version that would work on a win9x system or what is the last version that would work on an old voodoo 2 card?
Do the newer version also require faster cpu or is it only about OS system requirement increases?

If you want to keep the game compatible with Win9x/WinXP, then only upgrade to the last 1.13 version. Blizzard has done a good job at maintaining the changelog for the patch.

I did read changelog in wiki and it only mentioned not supporting windows xp, but I couldn't find anything about win9x. I would not have though the support for both ending at same time.
At least now I know it is safe to install LoD and it still works in win9x after that.

Why would you even expect to find something about Win9x? If it says it's not supporting XP, then it can't support anything else but 9x. (Win2k wasn't a thing for games, so let's ignore that)

I was expecting to find something about win9x in patch notes because the original cd version is only for win9x and doesn't even work on winxp, so I assumed they would let people know when there was a update that would stop it from using in system that it was originally made for. I assumed the support for win9x would have been dropped even before dropping winxp support but there wasn't info on that in any of the patch notes.
