The cases aren't laying around, they are stacked neatly in the closet, which is at its limit. A solder station wouldn't go in the closet, but on the tabletop. At $16, I couldn't resist. I'll have to stack it vertically as the table top space is at a premium. I think the issue with size is that half the unit is a variable supply and a regular solder iron. If those were removed, the hot air station part would be half the size like with the 858D. But with how my table is setup, I wanted the hot air wand mounted to the case on the left, so I got the 853D. I'll make it work.
