Some of my cards (video cards I think) display very brief ROM messages / banners shortly after power-on and I've found that my modern monitors are very slow to sync to a signal: by the time a sync is established, the system has moved on to RAM count etc.

Is there any clever trick to catch this initial message, short of finding an old school display that locks to a typical VGA text signal very quickly?
