I was watching an old episode of Shovelware Diggers, and the 1988 game Burger Blaster came up. It looks like this game uses composite artifacting for extra colors on top of the standard CGA color palette? Look at all those vertically-banded letters, burger patties, etc.

I can't find a screenshot of this rendered in composite mode anywhere, and I don't have a copy of this (or even DOSBox) to test right now, but why else would they draw the graphics that way?

I thought there was a thread that listed all the games that use this function on here already... was I imagining that?

well that's how composite cga works, it uses ntsc artifacting to enable more colors on screen
is more or less the same method used in other machines such as the Apple II series (the Apple II GS only in the compatibility modes), Atari 8 bit line of home computers and so

This is how it is through PCem v15's CGA composite emulation mode. Seems to only really matter for the text

^^ cool! Thanks for posting those. For some reason it seems like mixing composite colors with the RGB palettes was really rare. Most games only used one or the other 'mode', but neat to see it can be done.
