I didnt intend to collect them but my quest to get a nice win95 system has me now up to 6 motherboards. Although 1 is dead and 2 are OEM and only fits into the respective cases.

I also have a slot 1 motherboard and a socket A.

I have 226 pcs of faulty 8088-486 mainboards boxed up.
It's not really a collection, just my passion for repairing bad mainboards running wild.
I keep buying them but I don't really have the time to actually look at them. When I see a faulty mainboard for $2-5 I just have to buy it.
I only have 25 boards in working condition, most of them are in computers.
Now that the curfew is here I'm finally going to start working on them.

I know that feel.

I still have to get mine organized and work on those that I still haven't saved.

if only half of the boards I have work I'm happy 😀

all the ones I fished out of scrap lots that weren't physically damaged have worked so far, I'm still waiting for the ATX2AT Smart Converter to test all the older boards I don't know the state of.
and a lot of the better boards were in working condition anyways.

spent a lot of time today taking inventory, 60+ so far and counting, still missing many 386/486 boards ^^

^^^ Hoarder 🤣. Hope many of them work or just need a little TLC.

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. https://archive.org/details/@horun

I think I've got around a dozen to 15 motherboards, ranging from 386 to slot 1 and some more "modern stuff" like Asrock 775i65g. I've also got 2 Deathsmiles II Cave PCs, anyone know what those are 🤣?

Unless you are being sarcastic- like me describing my own experience with some eBay purchases that were supposed to have been "seller refurbished" items... Death Smiles- 🤣

I don't have a clue, but I would love to expand my horizons! Sounds interesting- got some pics to share?

If your PCs are complete, there are most likely motherboard in them in some form or another 😉

OK, I thought we are only talking about "loose" mainboards, so complete computers do not count 😁

See those three full boxes at the bottom? I have another three just like them.

Just exactly how long do you plan on living to get around to all of those? Or are you planning a "GMG Event?"

Sorting out what's what is a full day's work sometimes.
These are mostly acid damaged boards, the rest have components missing or a burned chip.
It's so hard to just let a damaged board go to waste without putting in the effort to save it.
But yes, it's also hoarding, luckily I still have plenty of space to fill with junk. 😁

It's less a question of time than space. If I had enough room about half those boards would be in bespoke builds of various kinds spread around my mansion 😜

But seriously I am working on the assumption science has increased the human lifespan to about 500 years by 2030.

Maybe around 40 full PC builds with motherboards in them, and probably another 30-40 motherboards in boxes that I'm currently organizing. I have boards from XT through dual 2011-v3.

phew... so this is the fruit of my labor from this weekend... went through a whole bunch of boards and started compiling a list of most of them... I left out obviously damaged boards apart from ones with slight corrosion, some boards I have multiples of and newer boards apart from a few interesting ones... and there are still some boxes I have to sort through first so these are still not all of them.
I honestly did not know I had this many boards already x3 (that happens when you're not keeping track of them) the list count currently is 122 if I am not mistaken.

Nice collection ! You have a superb bunch of Soc7 and Slot1. Do all of those work ? I tested all my spare boards back in Oct 2019 thru Dec 2019. Have 7o-ish that work (will boot to DOS floppy or HD), 4 that have failed to boot at all and 3 that hang at boot so am not listing them. I also have 23 fully working computers but only 19 are vintage from XT thru soc775, those boards are not listed either...

I also have 23 fully working computers but only 19 are vintage from XT thru soc775, those boards are not listed either...

heh, I wish, that is a mammoth task for another day.
I have barely tested any of the 486 and previous boards because as I said I'm waiting for the ATX2AT smart converter for that as I don't want to risk blowing anything up ^^
but I know from a bunch of them that they are working or coming from working machines.
of the socket 5/7 boards I tested a few, and I know from a bunch they are working or coming from working machines as well.
same goes for slot 1 and up.

I left out all the obviously damaged boards, apart from a few older ones with only slight corrosion that may or may not need a trace or two fixed.

I'd say I know of at least 30-40 or so boards that they are working and a lot that I have no reason to believe they wouldn't apart from needing a new dallas or maybe bios.

and so far the track record of boards I pulled from scrap lots has been great, the shuttle for example came from one too, and the only fix it needed was placing the cache opposite to how the sockets and manual tell you to ^^

I do eventually plan to test all of them of course 😀

2X Micron M55HI soc7 PCI no ram no cpu. Have 2 of these NOS, rev B and rev D

these look nice :3

I once filled up half on my parents garage with PC's and boards I picked up on the cheap at thrift sales and garage sales and boot sales, at one time I had 12 PC's and various boards from Sun Micro-systems, old Apple Macs x3 and various AMD and Intel boards... In the end I gave most of them away, including an atari 2600 with the joystick and games and various other consoles and tried to make the collection smaller. I kept the G4 with Mirror Drive Doors and a Pentium 4 with XSOL the extended OS loader and a couple of mini Atoms - little industrial jobs that are fan-less. As time went by I went from 95, 98, Me, XP and 10 all the way back to MSDOS 6.22 - Win 3.1 (16 bits) and Norton Commander on the P4 and Atoms and Helen OS on the G4. There are still 6 PC's around my parents in the loft along with x2 XBOX's with loads of games that I played very briefly as I kind of lost interest in gaming and nowadays I just use MSDOS or FreeDOS for DOS based games and as a simple data-base without all the bells and whistles of Windows 10 (FreeDOS RC1.3 is out!!) and when I get bored I play around with the Phenom II with it Thuban processor and 16 GIG of gaming ram just so I can play around with Ubuntu Mate and make it look like a Mac with a Mac OS Mojave theme. Loads of software laying around on USB stick's in 7-zip format, it's kind of weird that as time goes by you find yourself missing the older types of Operating Systems with no graphical user interface and start to move away from all the new and go back to all the old.

People say nothing is impossible - But I do nothing everyday!

I did not make a head count but I believe i have nearly 100 Abit motherboards in good working order and some 5 or 6 damaged or untested yet. I have 10 fully assembled retro systems; one modern system as my daily driver and one as a test bed.

I have 226 pcs of faulty 8088-486 mainboards boxed up.
It's not really a collection, just my passion for repairing bad mainboards running wild.
Now that the curfew is here I'm finally going to start working on them.

Don't feel shy about maybe sharing some how-to tips along the way. Maybe even a repair tips video or troubleshooting/diagnostic steps? I mean, why spend that time and not have it last and be there to help the less than experienced among us. Just a thought. 😉

Figuring it could take months what I did was set a plan. Take each board and look it over, if any visual oddities set it aside. So ended with two stacks, took the "looks good" stack and tested maybe 2 or 3 a night. Those with quirks went into third stack. Then went thru the second stack which most took one night per board, some two nights. Those that failed went to bottom of the third stack. Then started on it. After a couple months had gone thru near 100 boards and had bunch working and few quirky and few dead.
Yes once I was on the third stack, some boards took days to get to work, but left any that needed major surgery in a box for later. If you do a basic go thru and then a minor then moderate test setup you could whittle your boards down. Right now is a good time !

Added: every board I went thru I used one of those yellow Stick-ums papers and made notes and included in the antistatic bag. Made it easier when they got shifted into that third stack 😀
