is there any way to get dosbox to display the cpu usage at the top of screeen with the other data??
maybe even frames per second as well.

Gulikoza's coreswitch patch used to have such a FPS display.
Get a cvs build with fps patch included.

You can see CPU usage in task manager by pressing Ctrl-Shift-Esc.
There's no patch to show cpu usage at the top of screen now.
