Finally upgrading my PC after many years. Going
Ryzen 5 3600
...
I do a lot of emulation, so I am excited for the extra threads and increase in IPC.

DOSBox bench thread (check my signature) lacks newer Ryzen 3xxx to compare with previous 2xxx. Would be interesting to see the results for Ryzen's update there.

Sure, I'll post there when I get up and running 😀.

After 5 years with a monitor I repaired that someone was going to throw out (it had a bad capacitor I replaced), I finally "splurged" and got me a modern 1080p monitor. My previous monitor was a 23" 1680x1050 Acer from 2007. I replaced it with this:
https://www.benq.com/en-us/monitor/stylish/gw2480.html
Still, a very economical choice. I just can't see spending more than $120 or so on a monitor for some reason. The benefits of more expensive monitors aren't as tangible to me. Not like a graphics card or a cpu, so it's lower on my upgrade totem pole.

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

it's just four G200 on one pcb, one monitor each, so yeah, more for professional use, also it's quite retro actually ^^

I tried if its working, but im not sure that i have right cable, machine booted with this single videocard, but i got no picture, but i could remotely communicate with it.. i used DMS-59 cable, but im not really sure if it is right one.. its physically compatible.. but maybe these cards used some special version etc. Need just 1 G200 for testing, maybe if i cut card in 4 pieces if get one:)
Update: Found that there are MMS Win 98 drivers here: http://vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fileid=596&menustate=0 😀

DMS-59 is working at least for Dos - i have some with 2x DVI + i added DVI to VGA, only 1 of 4 possible (connector nearer to MB seems to primary one) outputs is working at the boot.

well that's good then, I wonder why they use different ones if the pinout is the same? ^^

Got one of the last non-SMR 4TB WD Red in state, to offload some data from my NAS. WD has replaced it (WD40EFRX) by "same" drive, but with SMR (WD40EFAX). Thanks, but no thanks.

Snagged this more modern capture card for cheap for my streaming adventures. I don't need it to do anything fancy, as long as it can handle >=640x480 modes @ 60Hz it'll do the job. (This is a "1080p" card so I'm hoping it will also allow for 1600x1200, but I'll live if it doesn't.)

Note that those ports are one HDMI input and one "AV in." The card has a good selection of analog inputs using its wonderfully bizarre breakout cable - first time I've ever seen an HDMI connector repurposed for something decidedly not HDMI like that. What an odd choice!

I wonder if they had to pay the HDMI licensing fee for both ports...

Incidentally, I also tried to upgrade my glacial internet service yesterday... My mainland-based ISP were all set to give me a literal 10x improvement in upload & download speed for only an extra $10 per month, and roll in a cheap deal on a new DSL modem to handle it, until they looked up my address and figured out the basic plan I have was already maxing out the line capacity in my 60-year-old building. Guess I'm stuck with 6mbit/768k for the forseeable future. 😠 We're never going to get any broadband infrastructure upgrades in this area because the incredibly old NIMBY-ists who permeate all public discourse here are actively against it. Sometimes I hate this island.

Xjax once Starlink is operational then you don't have to worry about it. I'm in a similar boat to you with my Verizon DSL service so starlink cant come fast enough.

Bought a 1tb WD Black 750 NVME SSD for my main machine. The 250gb Samsung 860 Evo has been packed full for FAR to long, and now that I went Ryzen last month and received my 1st full paycheck today, it made sense to blow the money on a high capacity SSD. Also bought RDR2, so that should make for a fun game to compare HDD vs SSD since Im installing it on a 2012 Hitachi 2tb HDD right now.

Main pc: Asus ROG 17. R9 5900HX, RTX 3070m, 16gb ddr4 3200, 1tb NVME.
Retro PC: Soyo P4S Dragon, 3gb ddr 266, 120gb Maxtor, Geforce Fx 5950 Ultra, SB Live! 5.1

Have fun, eh? I need to upgrade to a Ryzen and install nVME drives over the 480GB SSD, 1TB SSHD, and 1TB HDD. Might get a board that supports 3 of them and get a 1TB for the OS, and 2TB for the two 1TB drives for more storage.

Asus Maximus VIII Gene, under $65 shipped, supposedly new in open box. Been looking for one of these to use in a mATX case with the ROG Front Base Overclocking Panel. It should make a nice Windows 7/8.1/10 rig. Now I just need a CPU, RAM, and GPU. 🤣 edit: nevermind, found an i5 6500 and 8GB DDR4 in my spare parts so I can at least test the board when it arrives. Man, I totally forgot someone gave me a newer Dell that had that in it.. thought it was a 3rd gen i5 for some reason.

I mainly wanted to pick this up so I could have a fast Windows 7 system without having to hack up the OS for later update/driver support since Microsoft shafted us with the 7th gen+ chips.
