forgot to mention... also bought a FireGL V8650 which turned out to be only a V8600 (no memory on back) and worst of all it also doesn't work 🙁

Besides the amount of RAM and RAM throughput, is there any advantage over say an HD3870?

nope, not really 😀
it just would have been a cool card to have, basically a 2900XTX with more RAM

Nice ! Those are actually very good motherboards. I could be wrong be think all with the black ISA slots had real cache and many with the white ISA were the ones with fake cache (of the v1.7's) but am sure that just a rumor.

Does it have 256k cache ? Some of them came with 256k as either a 9 chip or a 5 chip set (cannot read your cache chips). Any chance of a better pic of the cache chips ? Just curious because I have seen the 5 chip 256k but not the 9 chip 256k in detail on a v1.7. Thanks !

Toshiba TC55V328AP-15 28-pin PDIP SRAM (3.3V 32Kx8), 9 of them, so 256KB L2 cache altogether. The board can take up to 1MB L2 cache, which was a lot for a 486 board.

s-l1600-cache.jpg

Thank you ! I have one with the 5 chip (4 +tag) 256k and it requires special BIOS settings because BIOS default is Cache Auto config "Enabled". That mode uses interleaved and with only 4 it is not and errors unless Disabled and "Cache Read Wait State" is set to "3-2-2-2". I am planning on switching it to 9 chip cache and will around for those Toshiba's.

Just bought an Asus V9480 GeForce4 Ti 4800SE for $29.88 shipped on eBay.. the seller still has one left if you search. 99.9% positive feedback, score of 13592 - says the cards are tested and working in the sale description so hopefully it's good. Free 30 day returns of not.

The card is basically clocked at Ti 4400 levels, but 8x AGP. Same core config (NV28) of 4:2:8:4 as a Ti 4600/4800, so all it needs is a little OC.

Edit: now sold out, hopefully someone here got it.

Damn ! I would a if I could a.....

I ordered 5 PCB's of this project here

https://github.com/mbarszcz-pcb/c64-rf-modulator-replacement

When they arrive, I will purchase the components in order to make them.
If working, I will put together 3 kit's, as I only need two modulators in all.

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.
Those cakes make you sick....

I ordered a DRAM tester from Sweden middle of last month, it finally arrived YAY ! It is not vintage but the mass of spare DRAM chips in my collection are.

I finally got around to ordering a replacement keyboard cable for the 1994 PS/2 Model M with a cut off cable I've had for two years. Can't wait to actually be able to test it out.

Bought & installed a i387 16-33.

My 386 build is almost finished. Soon I will be playing Quake on it!

Grabbed a little Cirrus logic 5424 SVGA card.

Should be a decent little performer. Will have to compare to ET4000 card 😀

I am just wondering if the 386+387 can beat my NexGen Nx586 scores (0.5fps with FPU sw emulation).

The board is DTK 4035D

Yes. It is the same thing. Your is 33 MHz and mine 40 MHz from factory. However, I unsoldered the 80 MHz oscillator and replaced it with socket and 66 MHz one so I effectively downgraded it to 3335D.

It's because I don't have a 40 MHz 386 CPU/FPU combo and my 33 MHz pair doesn't handle overclocking that well.

Like this, it is designed to run 4 diff tests on 4164 and 41256 DIPs which I have a bunch of.

shouldn't the usual EPROM programmers be able to test DRAM etc. as well?

They normally do SRAM only, as for DRAM, they would need a refresh circuitry.

I've seen several people mentioning the TL866(II?) also testing DRAM, I can't verify that though as my Genius G540 seems to be indeed limited to SRAM

Socket 370 cooler arrived. Much easier fit than the original compaq part.

Once that machine is set up all 6 of my machines will be "finished" if there is ever such a thing in this hobby 😀
