Hello,
I am having trouble getting this card to properly work on my K7S5A. When I install a VXD driver Windows 98 will not boot and hang on the loading screen. I found out that it boots again when I disable the initiation in msconfig in safe mode (installed Windows 98 new before, duh). I tried three drivers, only a WDM driver doesn't cause Windows 98 to hang. That driver also lacks the dos emulation device, maybe that is the reason?
On another mainboard with a KT266A chipset a Solo-1 works flawlessly. Could this be a compatibility problem between the K7S5A's chipset and the Solo-1?

My Hardware:
ECS K7S5A 3.1
Athlon XP 1800+
256MB DDR 133MHZ
3DFX Voodoo 3 1000
VIA USB 2.0 controller
250GB IDE HDD limited to 127GB
eDio Hi-Live SC1938 ESS Solo-1

running on Windows 98 SE

Try physically removing the USB 2.0 card and then see if the ESS driver installs correctly.

In my experience, those USB cards often take up IRQs that are used by DOS sound cards, which can lead to conflicts. If you open up Accessories > System Tools > System Information > Hardware Resources > IRQ you can check if there are any issues.

Thank you for your answer. That brought me closer to the problem. I have checked the IRQs, the onboard LAN takes IRQ 5 and the Solo-1 takes IRQ 12. I just installed the drivers for the LAN, before IRQ5 wasn't showing up. Can I manually switch those IRQs?

Well I just deactivated the onboard LAN since I don't use it anyways and now the Solo-1 takes IRQ 5 again. Everything works again, DOS games wouldn't start before because of missing EMS memory, now it works! Thank you very much.

Still have to find out how to get effects and voices in Star Trek 25th Anniversary Enhanced Edition, so far I just have music playing.

Finally everything works, I think I always installed the generic driver that Windows 98 wants to install instead of the actual driver. The one I am using now is a WDM driver, is there a difference between WDM and VXD drivers?
