Hey everyone,

I am having difficulty getting my voodoo setup running for native DOS 6.22 gaming.

I have a voodoo 3 2000 pci which I want to use for non-static linked 3dfx dos games and fast 2d.
I want to combine this card with a voodoo 1 for the static-linked games.

According to other pages I read this should be a nice combo, but I can't get it to work.
In the dos games I placed the appropriate glide2x.ovl for the card I want to use in the gamefolder.
This works for the voodoo 3 compatible games (for example tombraider) but when I try to run voodoo 1 games I lose video signal (no sync according to the monitor) and the system seems to crash.

When I remove the voodoo 3 and use the onboard ati card, the voodoo 1 games work fine.
I can't get the voodoo 1 to work in windows 98 (for testing) when the voodoo 3 is installed, but also works fine with the onboard card.

Am I forgetting an important step or should I only consider this setup with an agp voodoo 3 card (unfortunately my system doesn't have a agp slot)?
Has anyone else been able to get this setup working?

I did some additional testing with a voodoo 2 card instead of the voodoo 1.
If I try to run tombraider with the voodoo 2's glide2x.ovl file, it will run tombraider with the voodoo 2 without any problems.
When I try to run a static linked voodoo 1 game with the appropriate .bat file I get the same problem as described above.
After removing the voodoo 3 card the static linked games run fine with the .bat file.

Maybe your V3 and V1 cards don't like each other.

Are the PCI slots sharing an IRQ?

If they are, try moving one of them to a different slot and see if that helps.

Even if they aren't using the same IRQ, try changing the IRQ of the V3 and/or the V1 through the BIOS to see if that makes a difference.

What are the specs of the rest of your system?

Thanks for the suggestions. 😀

My specs are:
System = IBM Aptiva 2176 (board has socket 7 and 430hx chipset)
Onboard gpu = ATI Rage
CPU = Intel Pentium MMX Overdrive 200 Mhz
Memory = 64MB EDO Ram
Cache = 512KB L2 cache added
Sound = AWE64 Gold
Network = 3Com EtherLink III ISA
Storage = 6GB HDD and 8GB SDHC adapter to IDE

The board has only 2 pci slots, so I can't swap too much around.
I can't select a specific IRQ in the BIOS for each card, but I can Disable specific IRQ's.

When I looked in Windows 98 in device manager I saw only an IRQ at the voodoo 3 (irq 11) and no IRQ's for the voodoo card assigned.
After disabling IRQ 11 in the bios the voodoo 3 got assigned to irq 9 but this didn't solve the issue unfortunately.

Today I tested the voodoo3 and voodoo1 in another system, also a pentium 1.
The problem was identical as in the Aptiva.
I also had the opportunity to replace the voodoo3 with a banshee (pci) and a voodoo4 (pci), they both didn't work with a voodoo1 or voodoo2.
My guess is I am just out of luck with this setup and should find a board with agp and a voodoo3 agp as a replacement.
