I started this thread with the QNX 4 demo disks, now it's time to go back to QNX, specifically QNX 6 RTP, the freely distributed version of QNX 6.

The first boot of the 6.0 non pre-version, some other things change, like the boot options screen that is simpler to use with sub categories.

The minimum specs mentioned on the QNX website are a Pentium 200 and 32MB of RAM.
The OS works in 86box with a 486 PCI motherboard and an Intel DX4 or Pentium Overdrive, or an AMD 5x86 cpu.
It can be installed in its own partition or as a loopback file under Win9x.

The 6.2.0 is the last one that comes with a Win9x installer.

Does the Win9x version make any changes to the host OS? (I.e. is it "safe" to install on an existing system and uninstall cleanly?) I'm guessing it just sets itself up as a containerized virtual machine?

It just edits the config.sys to add the boot menu for QNX, and return it to its previous state during the uninstall.
I remember playing Quake 3 with QNX, on my BP6 with a Voodoo 3.

I remember having played DooM on my PC running SUN Solaris 8 x86. It also worked on Solaris 9 and 10, however that's as far as I got using Solaris. I also ran DooM on BeOS, I recently found the CD for it, I'll see if I can find the binaries again to screenshot it.
Regarding QNX, I remember using it briefly, mainly just to know how it was, but loving the microgui interface. I found a theme for GNOME2 that was identical and used that until new Fedora Linux versions (which is what I use) stopped supporting GNOME 2, and the theme does not work on GNOME 3.

I've got a boxed copy of Warp v3 upgrade for OS/2 v2.* Basically just v3 really. Glad I've got the CD copies of v3 up. It makes life a lot easier if you want to have a play around on real hardware.

MATE is the modern equivalent to Gnome 2 and works quite well om lesser specced systems.

It is not. It is a fork of Gnome 2 and that does not make them the same thing.
GNOME 2 is what MATE started with. As a codebase, they were the same at the beginning but are no longer the same. As a project, of course, MATE is not in any way GNOME.

Anyone tried Xenix ? I was wondering how would that work on a fast 286 with some memory.

Good stuff. My first 286 had DR Dos 6 and GeoWorks Pro 1.2 on it. My current Redstone XT Turbo is set up that way now just for nostalgia purposes.

We used to have this in my high school computer lab running on 386SX25 computers. I don't have very fond memories of it, but it worked. We could print to a dot matrix printer from Professional Write for example.
