Yes.
I think the change to all solid polymer caps is why the cheaper brands or models appear to be better than they used to be.

The slow switch to all polymer was partly a cost issue and partly a technology issue.
In the early 2000's solid polymer caps that cost 75-80 cents each today cost $12-$15 each.
And until fairly recently the available uF and voltage ratings of solid polymers couldn't cover the range of wet-lytics.
They still don't -quite-, but almost.

Back to Asus:
If you think back you'll probably remember ads for industry standard RAM that said something like -
"Compatible with all ___ chipset motherboards - except Asus."
I suspect that is/was because Asus was cheaping-down by not using the recommended (by AMD/Intel) small SMD noise filtering parts near their RAM slots.
RAM that had those parts in excess of the minimum on the module (which is optional) would work but RAM that didn't wouldn't always.

🤣

check out this other board they make. AM2+ plus real AGP 8x and PCIE x16 enabled by using two chipsets! SATA 2, GigE. Insanity.
http://asrock.com/MB/overview.asp?Model=ALiveDual-eSATA2

ASRock engineers are crazy.

That board's been in our main pc for a few years. Also running a couple of 4coredual's, the socket 775 equivalents. Were a godsend when the switch to pci-e was happening, and now they give nice flexibility still - got one 4coredual with a dual core cpu and pci-e card, the other has a prescott and fx5950 ultra. alivedual has an x4 phenom.

Pretty uncombatible.

http://asrock.com/support/note/AM2NF3-VSTA.html#Phenom

Looks like with Phenom X4 you get only PCI Mode AGP (x64).

Probably due to bad English though. 😊

A little bit of a necropost just to say how wild this board is. I got mine in a lot with some other LGA 775 boards without even knowing it was in there. It's a Rev 3.0 too. I vaguely recall the hubbub on Vogons a while back when you could get these new for $50. I added a Pentium Dual Core E5800 ($6) and 256MB of CAS 2.5 DDR memory.

I had my doubts, but I downloaded the Windows 98 drivers from the Asrock website and proceeded to install 98SE. Everything installed perfectly. USB 2.0 without any of the headaches usually associated with Windows 98 and USB chipsets.

I haven't even added any video or sound cards yet. I'm using the integrated graphics from the 865G and the C-Media AC'97 audio. Just for kicks, I benched Unreal Gold at 1024x768 and got 44 FPS.

I'll probably add an XP HDD too, but right now I'm intrigued by having one of the fastest Aureal 3D builds around. I knew I was saving this X800 AGP card for something.

And I can't dual-boot 98-XP.

Why, what's the issue?

Are you using or used Linux on that machine?

Try repair bootloader with Windows XP CD.
https://neosmart.net/wiki/no-g2ldr/

Also, for dual boot to work correctly, you need to first install 98 and XP afterwards.

Unfortunately the rev. 3.0 does not allow to use the E7600 cpu ... Maybe changing the bios ...
And I can't dual-boot 98-XP.

I also have the rev.3 .0 and tripple boot 98SE, XP and 7. Found a nice guide for how to do it, but didnt bookmark it..

Have you tested the C-Media chip in DOS? Does it work? Also, how does the A3D and EAX sound like? In the CMI8738 that I've tested it isn't that good.
