I was playing around with Dune II, when I discovered a soundblaster+mt32 patch.
Now I only remember playing it with soundblaster back in the day.
But this was a nice treat to say the least.
The same goes for Dick Tracy, never knew it had speech with Disney Sound Source.
So I started thinking what did I miss out on back in the day ?
Now I am very curious if there are any other games that are worth checking out.
Something that looks or sounds so much better and truly makes a game shine.
Since you mention Dune 2, you probably know there is an upgrade setup program from Westwood you can download that allows different soundcards for sfx and music. There is a similar upgrade setup program for Lands of Lore.
In case you are unware, SVN has an oplmode=opl3gold setting to support the AdLib Gold music in Dune.
So, examples of fixes, hacks, unofficial patches, and official patches! 😁
Seriously, though, you can find lots of "tweaks" if you look around the forum.

Brilliant, checking it out now. I really like Dune 2 and going to take a look at Veil of Darkness, that seems like an awesome game.
As a fan of Dune 2, you should check out Super Dune 2. Fixes bugs, and makes the AI more competent (which might or might not be something you want, heh).
Veil of Darkness was a favorite of mine back in the day, although now I see its awkward bits more clearly. While the Roland music can make a nice change-up, I actually prefer the OPL music... nostalgia, I guess.

Nice 😁 Is there a way to turn up the music ? its soft compared to the fx.

Yeah I have that with plain AdLib sometimes...it just sounds right.
I must say that opening was good, now I have to play it because I need to know the ending.

For internally emulated sound devices you use the mixer command, e.g. MIXER FM 200:200 to increase the volume of the FM music. For external devices you have to adjust their volume... externally.
However I found the culprit being two old configuration files from the original setup.exe
DUNE.CFG
OPTIONS.CFG
After deleting these and redoing the setup values stay at 100:100 which is good as I can hear the music now, but its still a bit too soft. Increasing FM to 200:200 has no effect.
SB Pro (1 and 2) and SB16 have a mixer interface that is linked to the DOSBox mixer by default, and games can change volume levels through that interface. You can either use a setting of sbtype=sb1 or sbtype=sb2, where there is no mixer interface, or you can disable the link between the SB mixer interface and the DOSBox mixer with a setting of sbmixer=false. While the sbmixer=false setting prevents your manual mixer volume settings from being overridden by a game, you can lose any volume "features" a game might have, such as reducing music volume during speech, fading in/out, etc.
