Liquid Nitrogen... Gets my thoughts to oc... Only the thought of how fast a DX4 at 200MHz @66x3 could be... 😜
I Might keep it simple, get a better sink and mount a fan...
Stuck at 10MHz...

Try Velox Icecap. It uses Peltier cooling.

New items (October/November 2022) -> My Items for Sale
awesome :3
I probably overpaid for this lot at 110€, but I had never seen a computer this old with the original box and all packing materials intact (in person). Plus I'm a fan of Compaq PCs, so I couldn't resist. The Creative box is empty (except for the inner boxes and packing foam), but since I have the matching sound card, CD-ROM drive and remote control already the seller offered it to me. Now all I need is the speakers.
Everything works fine and is in very good condition. The only real problem is that the monitor is a lot more yellowed than what it seemed in the seller's photos.
I decided to install Quake to see what the performance was like and it was slower than what a regular Pentium 100 was supposed to provide. I opened it and sure enough it's on a 50MHz FSB x2, and no cache. There is no option to use a 66MHz FSB. I guess these were cheap machines back in the day. It's still a cool looking PC though.
I don't think you overpayed it... but it's maybe because I have soft spot for Compaq desktops and this one looks really nice!
Nice stuff guys !
Not exactly retro but will be used on one of my Pentium boxes so it is psuedo-retro Hahaaa. Went to S.A. looking for a 5v.dc @1.5A wall-wort to replace one that died for my converter box and found this Dell 1908FP built Nov. 2008 for $8, missing the vid cables. Lady at the counter said it was 50% off today so got it for $4 but no returns. Works Great but only tested the DB15 not the Digi input yet. Now I have two !
Note: the Moir effect is from my camera and the LED room lighting, the monitor is crystal clear and no bad pixels.
Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

That's 4$ well spent! Is it 1280x1024?

Yes 1280x1024 at 75Hz max refresh. And the 1708/1908fp Dells will do 720x400 @70Hz.

I happen to care very little for non-IBM systems. However that thing is almost perfect. You did not overpay.
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

You could test an Intel Quark, basically a 486 core @ 400MHz with some P54C instructions and other features added. And, as the product line is already EOL it's almost retro.
Got these, basically for free, today
Two generic S3 Savage4 32 Mb AGP graphics cards, one in a generic box with drivers CD and one noname PCI sound card, SM724 Rev 1.00, with Yamaha YMF740C-V sound chip. Also with driver CD.
Still don't know if the Yamaha chip is genuine...
That is an interesting sound card. YMF7x0 chips were usually integrated on motherboards . This is the first time I see one on a PCI card .
didn't know either, must have been a very budget card back then... but today pretty nice :3
Looks like the Yamaha card has an SB-LInk as well. Nice.
Got this nice screen from a friend of mine 😍
19 inch, trinitron tube.
nice! :3
That's a nice crt you got. How's the picture quality of it?

So far so good, but didn't managed to push it really, yet.
