I have googled it in many ways, in reality there is plenty of room 64kb to 256kb. Minimalist bootable DOS can be achieved, but there is no tutorials and no ROMs. I am certain, that i am not the only one who have taught that.

I am aroused about any X86 motherboard that has full functional ISA slot. I think i have problem. Not really into that original (Turbo) XT,286,386 and CGA/EGA stuff. So just a DOS nut.

Hi, you can also use a M-System Disc-on-Chip 2000 (DoC) module, I believe.
It should fit the ROM socket on the network card and has several megabytes of storage.
There's also a special boot loader inside that copes with the 8-bit interface and i/o transfers. It usually appears as Option-ROM.

In fact, the DoCs were also used as SSDs since the 90s.
A simple address decoder is all it needs to interface with ISA or PC/XT bus.

I forgot, there's also DIP DOS 2.11 (Atari Portfolio).
The HP 200LX also had DOS in ROM.
MS-DOS 5.0, I believe.

Strange that no real option rom images are available in the wild. In theory, that could be a nice replacement for a basic boot disc, just pop a chip in your lan.

I was just about to post that link. Very interested to hear if you're able to get it to work.

Well you only have about 62kb of free space with this solution. So only tightly packed FreeDOS is only possibility.

Hm. Nowadays, people seem to be more interested into integrating stuff straight into BIOS ROM..

Windows 3.1 in BIOS ROM (news)

Bad thing is that i needs MS-DOS 7.1 or Freedos to run, because MS-DOS 6.22 and older, do not recognise the small geometry of that custom rom disk image. So 7.1 is out of the question, even that bootlegged LZDOS flavour wont do, so only option is FreeDOS.

rjdos.zip [12 kB] - RJDOS 0.01a by Richard L. James is a small replacement of command.com (9746 bytes)

http://www.wimborne.org/richard/downloads/rjdos.zip

Link is dead, even FreeDOS community talked about it, bot it can not be downloaded anywhere.

there is no limit to 62k, you can just use romboard and map 128k also.
