Does anyone know if online Windows XP updates still work? My system downloaded a few automatically when I put XP SP3 on it, but if I go to check if there are any more I get error 0x80244019. Is there a fix for that or has Microsoft disabled XP updates?

Does Autopatcher XP (and "APUP") still work? It downloads everything from Microsoft directly; that's what I would use.

Better yet, use Autopatcher to download everything and then slipstream it onto an SP3 CD using nLite.

ETA: Reading the forums, it looks like Autopatcher XP hasn't been updated since 2016, when a whole bunch of updates were removed. 🙁

Probably need the updated agent and root certs.

Don't see the point in trying to use Windows update when you should be slipstreaming the regular updates, POS updates, and the other fixes.

But if the downloads aren't even hosted by Microsoft anymore, what is the best way to get them?

My system will download them on its own whenever it is the auto update runs (a little notice appears in the lower right corner), but if I manually do Windows update and go to the site it gives me that error. Hopefully it installed all the updates it needed (130 of them) and that's why it's not downloading any more.

Think we have a bit of confusion.

If you select Automatic, Download updates for me or Notify It'll still work fine.

However the Windows update website link method has been broken for years now.

Personally I install SP3 and call it a day. A fully patched XP PC is still a massively insecure OS in this day and age.

Is there a limit to how many updates will be automatically downloaded by XP? If it downloads everything at the same time I might have to do it now that everything's still available and make my own slipstreamed version.

It would be annoying if it doesn't download everything at once. It would mean having to sit through the actual updating, download the next batch, update & wait, etc.

No limits number wise, but it will skip something that's missing a pre requisite till next round.
So say KB456 requires KB123 first. KB456 won't appear until after 123 has been applied.
(.Net and then the SP is the obvious instance of this)

I forget how many "rounds" it takes to get fully upto date. 4 or 5 I think.

I also don't think the few updates that were released even after it went EOL during the wannacry were ever included in the autoupdate list.

You can still download all the offline updates from below as long as you know the KB number

Well it did do 130 updates, so hopefully that's all of them. It's not like it's going onto the web other than possibly to download a game update.

There are a whole bunch of KB numbers listed in http://www.autopatcher.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1306 that no longer seem to exist.

For slipstreaming If you don't want to hunt them all down yourself here (http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Searc … x?q=xp+embedded) you can go here: https://ryanvm.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=25&s … 2ab0e795cc0e6da

The phone number still works and they can send you a link via SMS so you can use a pretty userfriendly Web GUI to put your key in.

How are you actually activating new XP installs? I thought the activation servers were taken offline...

The copy I have is already activated or doesn't require it for some reason.

That's either exactly, or very close to, the number of updates that the last two systems that I installed XP on downloaded after I installed SP3, so I think you're fine.
