Would it be the 1996 marked 512kB versions?

As far as I know none of the 1mb work above 233Mhz so a 512K would be a better choice though diff chips may be more overclock friendly,,,, you may need to try a bunch to break the 240Mhz barrier (read about how most will not). Good luck !

been doing some reading on older threads and it seems like the 1996 dated 512kB units are the only ones with the 350nm process for both the CPU and cache die
You might want to add capacitors on CPU for better overclocking.

Someone modded PPro that way here on Vogons. I think it was around 2019.

Hardly. Quantity is significantly lower after all this years. You can't make profit out of them.

Yeah I have the thread tagged. All he said was he recovered them from coppermine CPUs. No mention of what the correct package was only the value.
bump if anyone else has any additional thoughts
If you know the cap values then just order some ceramic smt's and try it. I OC'd a P.Pro 200 to 233 for a few years but have not done that since 1997
I have some early P.Pro that have over 1g of gold, the later ones had less plating and are closer to 0.5g. At $1900 that makes them $67+ per g... yes should melt down my two old dead ES180 and 200 as they are worth more melted than mantle pieces. The 200's plastics with 1Mb cache had nearly 0 gold. 🤣.
