I recently acquired an SoundBlaster Pro 2 CT1600 from eBay. I put it in an 386 with 25Mhz. While FM sounds okayish, digitized sound is just loud noise with a liiitle bit of variation. I tried the test-spb tool as well as DOTT with the same result. Now... is this thing broken or is there something I have to take care of to make it work? I already used the Turbo button to go to 12 Mhz but it makes no difference.

I've created a short video of MMDEMO which show the issue quite good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxi4Fn8o55s

Edit: I switched ressources around, changed the DMCTL jumper, measured -5V while mmdemo was running (-4.90something), changed ISA slots, removed all cards not necessary to boot the PC.

Edit2: I changed the PSU, didn't help. Then I dug out my 486 test machine and put the card in there - same exact problem. So I'm pretty confident that the card is toast.

Before you give up, please check the DSP version with a diagnostics program.
You can use the Creative one or, say, NSSI.

If the programs read back a DSP number, the microcontroller on the card is still working.
The issue then might be related to the other chips, some of which are off the shelf parts (74xxx).

Good luck! 🙂
