Some months ago a work mate gave me a Voodo 3 3000 for free. He had tried to better cooling of the card attaching an six or eight cm fan to the heatsink using only glue. At the end the heatsink had fallen off due to the failure of one of the knob springs. It was a surprise. I remember to have broken in the past a voodoo 3 2000 trying to detach its glued heatsink. I also was aware that there were virtually no cooling solutions compatible for this cards and that some people in te forum has posted some DYI, handcrafted solutions.

Trying to turn operative the card, and after measuring the hole to hole distance I found in ebay a chipset heasink that could get the job done and altough not exactly the same distance, it worked.

Attached some photos and put the ebay link just in the case someone needs the same solution.

that danger is why i tend to put a modern 120mm fan over the card, in parallel to the mainboard. still quieter than those old little ball bearing fans, no modding on the card required, and still seems to help out pretty good.

i'm not sure how much of a concern the old paste is in the long run, but if the heatsink still gets hot quickly without the fan, i guess it's still doing something?
