Nice setup. Going to take a photo of my current setup once I fix my Packard Bell machine (getting the board today that works and was cheap).

The year is what we choose it to be. I am quite partial to 1998 myself 😀

Restricted by options in a one bedroom apartment and needing space for my retro PCs, I decided it was time to change things up a bit. Why do I even need a dining room?

Not technically "computing area" related, but I have those same Ikea chairs in my living room! 😃 They cost very little, but they're sturdy and practical. I even had them oiled, which gave them a darker and deeper color.

Very clean and simple. I am currently doing some major downsizing so this is what I am shooting for myself. My modern daily driver and a Tualatin 1.4 for my DOS and Win9x gaming/floppy archiving.

I actually kept one of the chairs in a corner elsewhere because my cat liked to scratch her claws on the legs. She scratches on the $35 Ikea chair and ignores the $1500 sectional sofa, so I figured removing the $35 chairs might be tempting fate to ruin my sofa. 😜

haha you just made me notice I've got the same PC, keyboard, mouse, screen only from all from different places over the years. I wasn't even trying to create a matching set, it's all just stuff I've picked up free over the years.
Do you know if that's the original screen for the T500? that would be cool. I think the keyboard might actually be from a bit later but could be wrong.

bjwil1991 your desk looks like mine (and few others here) always loose bits of hardware no matter how hard you try to keep it organised

$35? I remember paying only something like €15 a piece for them. 😳

But then again, $35 might still be cheaper than an actual scratching post (let alone a sofa, indeed). 😂

Don't think I had ever posted pics in this thread either, but I've shared pics of my "computing area" before in other threads. Meh. Here is a current pic showing typical work-from-home stuff running, plus another of my retro console gaming set up too, because why not.

I see a 64DD and a Famicom Disk System, very nice 😁

Haha, thanks. Love the FDS. Even though it was released in Japan only, many, many games are very playable often even with lots of English text in them, which is great for someone like me that cannot read Japanese. Cannot say the same about the 64DD. I have no regrets for buying one (I always wanted one as a kid, the hype around the extra level of complexity and customizability it would allow games to have fascinated teenager-me in the 90's), but it kinda just sits there as a collector piece and is barely ever used. I am holding out hope around some recent efforts with certain people digging into the 64DD firmware protections/restrictions that prevent retail units from completely re-writing disks, which prevents you from writing English translations for the games onto them (yes, a flash cart solves this problem too).

Which Surface Book are you using? Is it really that good? I'm interested in knowing more and experimenting since I've seen one of my customers last year at work with one in our conference room.

As you can see, I've completely given up on the concept of organization by now. I just have too much stuff. The other corner of the basement, not pictured, has even more stuff. I think I have a hoarding problem. It's amazing how much stuff can pile up over 20+ years.

Reminds me of the computer repair shop I worked at in the early 90s. My kind of atmosphere to be honest. I just don't have the room for it. Only thing I would change is the fluorescent lighting. I gotta have a moody atmosphere.
