Hey all, got a MSI Geforce FX 5900 XT card that that is no longer functioning 100%

The issue seems as though the Vram is going bad, however there are things that hint that it's not. It posts fine, windows 98 GUI is fine, it's stable and some games show no real issue. Then there are games that use certain effects that will show texture corruption, missing textures. Example is Jane's WWII Fighters, sometimes the ground texture tiles closest to you will corrupt, other times it's the far tiles, and sometimes it's all the flack and smoke effects with tile corruption, yet it's stable.

So i'm thinking that one or more caps that supply power to the Vram is failing.

I cannot identify the caps in question, these caps use markings indicative to the manufacturer.

I am hoping someone here has done repairs or may have a card by another manufacturer that may have the information on the cap.

Those look like Sanyo EX hybrid caps, 470uF, 6.3V.

Are you getting artifacts in a multi-iteration (looped) run of 3DMark 2001 or 2003 ? Those were high visibiliyy application that Nvidia liklely tested their drivets against thoroughly .

The reason I am asking is to exclude possible driver issues as a cause . I have an MSI FX 5900, but not the games you mention, so I cannot attempt to test them .

EDIT: My card is not an XT version .

Thank you, I was thinking those where the specs, but you can never be to sure.

Nope, ran just fine. It's very weird and I have tried multiple drivers and another motherboard.

The caps look ok visually. Have you tried changing the thermal compound? Sometimes it dried up and would cause such problems too.
