Best endurance (write cycles), fastest, most advanced technology, largest supplier of flash in the world, i.e. the best.

The Samsung Pro line isn't intended for gamers unless you are talking about the gamers with more money than sense.

If it's only intended to be used for the OS then get whichever is cheapest. If you are worried about tlc vs mlc, write endurance, firmware updates and if it will last for possible 10yrs which is 5yrs past the warranty then do the research and get the best one. PCI-E 4.0 980 pro will be out soon. Overkill just for the OS though.

It's hard to get research on how long nvme lasts. And yes I think of getting top of the line ssd, cash is not a concern. I don't want to go for cheap option because OS drive will contain program files with software, settings, things I don't want to go all over again SOON. Furthermore my motherboard is Supermicro X11SCA-F, I can't put 980 in it because mobo supports PCIe 3.0 M.2 NVMe SSD, and for this revision Samsung 970 PRO is the fastes choice, do you recommend this drive as reliable?
Or you would choose Sandisk or other instead? What is your bet

I’ve never had any issue with Samsung M.2 drives in the past.

Because I tend to keep computer parts for a really long time, I went with a 1TB Samsung 960 Pro for my OS drive and an 1TB 850 Pro for my game drive. Zero issues with either, so far. I also replaced the 500GB hard drive in my 2011 HP EliteBook with a 2.0TB 860 Pro earlier this year. Again, zero issues so far and Windows 10 startup time went from roughly 90 seconds down to about 15.

Contrasting that, I did put an early 500GB Intel 660 M.2 (the TLC model) in my wife's daily driver as the sole drive in early 2017. It too, has been totally fine so far and she is adding/editing/deleting probably at least a dozen multi megabyte photos daily.

Uh? Backups? You can get the most reliable drive ever and it still could fail due to a freak accident.

You should definately try in your DOS/Windows computers sound from Gravis Ultrasound or Aureal Vortex 2, they have superior sound over creative labs cards and are also SB compatible.

I actually do have a GUS ready to go into the Compaq Prolinea the next time I open it up! For the longest time, that computer had a Logitech branded PAS. Regrettably, I sold that off about 10 years ago. I search eBay every now and then, but that last one that I saw sold for more than I'm willing to pay.

Go for the 970 pro. I got my 1TB 850 Pro back in Dec 2014 and it's still going strong.

Some retro computer parts starts to getting hard to find, I am looking forward to your GUS upgrade !
