I have seen counterfeit branded SD/CF cards, counterfeit Prolific brand USB serial chips, a counterfeit branded high end car stereo head unit and that's just off the top of my head personal or first-hand accounts (friends), and confirmed by the manufacturer whose good's were couterfeited ( through direct communication or software tools provided) or by comparing product packaging/appareance/performance . Even chinese companies like Autoelectric (TL866) have info on their site about identifying counterfeits . There are many other documented counterfeit products, often originally from China (obviously not exclusively from there).

China is the manufacturing hub of the world, it makes sense that a lot the products we buy, both genuine and counterfeit originate there .

As for genuine Panasonic capacitors being available from China, and cheaper, I have no doubt about that . The problem I see is that, unless you are buying from the actual manufacturer, a subsidiary, an authorized distributor (or at least a known reliable one), whether in China or elsewhere, how do you know that you are getting the real thing ? Counterfeit (re-branded) capacitors are a well documented phenomenon, AFAIK .

Agree ! I have seen counterfeit caps off ebay that were no where near the same as the ones bought from Digikey, they were poorly printed and very odd plastic coverings. Also saw a fake Nvidia card a friend bought. Supposed to be a newer model but had a earlier generation chip on it (that only a utility like GPUZ would tell you unless you pulled the heatsink/fan off) he bought straight from someone in China. Fakes do exist, no doubt about it. The odds of getting one "if you are smart" are rare. The odds of getting one today are fairly good if you go with the cheapest source possible (the old saying: if to the price is too good to be true, there is a reason 😀)

I bought a 1TB pen drive. Even managed to format it. It seems it has firmware that lets the system believe it is 1TB. No idea how much space it really has, because it is impossible to write files to it! Only £10 though, so I really should have been more suspicious of it 😀

I've had so much decent hardware for very cheap from China that a £10 drive is not worth complaining about 😀

Use ChipGenius to find out what kind of controller the pendrive has, then search for that chipset's "mptool" and use that to reinitialize the drive to its proper size.

Teapos from 14-15 year ago are the epitome of capacitor plague in my experience, all my Socket A stuff with Teapo caps bulged and leaked.

Are these cards worth something?
A friend of mine plans to offload like 30 of them for $20, they have a proprietary dual DVI port but not much else, simple noiseless office video cards with multiple display support (up to 10 on a single machine according to the guy).

Can you post a pic of the connector if you have access to them? I'm wondering if it might be DSM-59, which is an uncommon but standard connector that there are splitter cables available for. Most NVS 300 had that connector.

5 years ago I would have bought one for my mATX LP Media Center PC but now I have 4 Raspberry Pi 3B's so... not really..

IBASE MB930f-r
Q35 chipset, Socket 775, with all connectors you can think of, except SCSI (and mfm Winchester).
Dual PS/2, VGA output (Intel) and one ISA slot that does not support DMA. IDE and compactflash ( = over IDE) ports not bootable.

I know I had an AWE64 in the PC I bought in 1998 and had no sound card but only PC speaker sound as late as around 1995/96 probably, but there are no records really of what was in between then...
I have a photo of our PC in 1996 with speakers so we got a sound card then... maybe it was the AWE64 already? maybe something else, I wish I knew.

looking back it's amazing how long we made due with just the PC speaker sound, all the way from back in 1988 to 1996, but then again also had 386 machines for that whole period too, I assume we got our first sound card when we upgraded to a pentium in 96.
maybe that's why that style of sound is so ingrained in my head, hearing the monkey island theme with a PC speaker is almost more fullfilling than all the "superior" versions.

Sony CPD 210GS. Needs some cleaning but featuring a beautifully bright tube. Original owner said it saw very limited use, though I'm not sure how much I trust him... but seems like it might be true.

Only issues really were that it did not have the original stand attached (minor annoyance, but would be awesome if I could find a replacement somewhere) and that the "enter" button on the front looked like it had been smacked with something and was pressed in far too much. After popping it out it works fine, so meh.

Not seen a Supermicro S2D** board since i got it moons ago. It takes the 700mhz, 900 mhz CPUs fine.

Overclockable to 112mhz FSB in the bios. 133MHz FSB by software.

900 Mhz Xeon is multiplier locked and can do 1008Mhz (112MHz x9), needs a vmod for higher! I call it the Tualatin killer.

700Mhz Xeons and below are unlocked, need to check if setmul can work with them. Fastest at 864Mhz (133MHz x 6.5)
