This is an amusing response:
How can I disable joystick support in DOSBox ?

Has there been any change since then allowing the joystick to be enabled and disabled from the config file? Is this feature planned in the future? Please tell me if I just missed something in the manual.

I want to play Prince of Persia too, but unlike the author of that earlier post, I want to use JoyToKey to remap the gamepad buttons. (my gamepad driver doesn't support this option)

Any responses are welcome. 😀

I will follow these steps I just found at another forum and try to recompile SDL without joystick support if there are no better solutions.

If you're not using a very old version of dosbox,
that joysticktype=none doesn't suit your needs?

Hi SB-X,
whenever you are using a new version of DosBox it is good to let DosBox write a new conf file. OTherwise you might end up with no longer working entries AND not up to date options in it.
See you in #exult, soon 😀

Haha... so Dominus, you caught me playing more old games, and not knowing how to use DOSBox correctly. 😀 (I should've remembered you'd probably read this.)

How old was 0.63? 😅
After upgrading to the newest version, the joysticktype option is now working. For some reason I thought it was unlikely that feature would get added, but you guys must really listen to feature requests. (or had it planned already)

In fact, the newest beta version of D-Fend has the joystick type added to Edit Profile->Bios for each game.
Thanks for the advice, wd and Dominus! (although I'm almost finished with Prince of Persia anyway 😐)
