My McFly arrived today!

Can't wait to test it out. Going to put together my Chill adapter first. I was waiting on the Chill Box to arrive before working on it. Now that I have everything I need, a project will commence hopefully this weekend.

Mine arrived today. The sound is interesting...🤣. Sadly though, it seems like this chip was never meant to be used for games.
For example loading Doom by itself works, but if I include Sigil, then start E1M1, some of the notes do not play at all. Sending a full reset message
doesn't fix it either. It needs to be fully switched off and rebooted. I have mine installed in NS5R so it's not too big of a hassle, but I can't imagine
using this on an internal soundcard directly.

Don't take this message the wrong way though. I am actually quite enjoying this thing. Fun little novelty that goes well with beer.

Modules: CM-64, CM-500, SC-55MkII, SC-88 Pro, SY22, TG100, MU2000EX, PLG100-SG, PLG150-DR, PLG150-AN, SG01k, NS5R, GZ-50M, SN-U110-07, SN-U110-10, Pocket Studio 5, DreamBlaster S2, X2, McFly, E-Wave, QWave, CrystalBlaster C2, Yucatan FX, BeepBlaster

I think the fact that you have it installed in the NS5R is exactly the issue. I have a Roland SCB-7 installed in one and, for instance, the Monkey Island 2 intro soundtrack plays, but always without the drums. after that, all tracks play without the drums, untill a power cycle has been done to the unit.

Thanks for the info. I've been using DreamBlaster X2 in my NS5R for years and never experienced anything like this before. I've been testing this setup on several different machines and games, certain tracks always create this issue. Oh well, I've been meaning to pickup a chill box anyways. 😀

Will the internal program be free, so it can be studied and updated. And maybe it can be used it decode MP3s in hardware, like MIDI SYSEX data, but parse MP3 frames.

I am aroused about any X86 motherboard that has full functional ISA slot. I think i have problem. Not really into that original (Turbo) XT,286,386 and CGA/EGA stuff. So just a DOS nut.

The Program is internal,

i guess it will be configured trough Resistors/Jumpers..

MIDI Connections
Like
With a few jumper connections, the board will boot up in MIDI mode that will read 'classic' 31250Kbaud MIDI data on a UART pin and act like a synth/drum machine - there are dozens of built-in drum and sample effects.

It uses the internal ROM modus for realtime MIDI synth, it is configured through resistors indeed.

I love the way this sounds with Descent, and after a couple of listens I'm not as negative on how it sounds with Doom as I was when I first heard it compared to the S2. Love these low cost wavetable cards!

Random semi-related question, have you ever considered a project to build an external serial to MIDI adapter that is compatible with SoftMPU? It would obviously be more complex than a passive adapter like the DB15MIDI device that relies on the sound card's MIDI interface, but the utility of something like this to get around the hanging note bug on Sound Blaster MPU-401 interfaces and providing a path to connect MIDI devices to old laptops and other hardware where a sound card is not present could be really useful for retro applications.

Video demo of SoftMPU's new serial output feature

Here's a demo of a native Roland SC-55ST using the serial interface playing Monkey Island (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3qCIe0TmtQ&feature=youtu.be) - here's a project to build an adapter along the same lines as what I'm suggesting: https://www.compuphase.com/electronics/midi_rs232.htm

I use a Roland SC-7 to serve a similar purpose with a serial to mini DIN cable I purchased from Sweetwater and it works perfectly with an old 486 laptop and my retro gaming PC via DB9 serial port... but would love the ability to make this capability device agnostic to connect to various other MIDI devices including your CHILL, X3MA, Dreamface, etc.

Yes. Also parallel to midi.
So far, I was always distracted making more and more soundcards,
but some interface in the long term pipeline
