I am going to try building a DOS/Win98 PC using a VIA C3 667MHz. According to Wikipedia this chip has a measly 2.5W TDP. That is almost certainly wrong 😁 However CPU-World lists this CPU as 9.6V typical TDP, which is more believable. I am thinking it should be fine to cool with just a beefy heatsink. Am I thinking wrong?

16.1W max dissipation. As it says heatsink and fan, I would go with that. Passive cooling might be OK on low power CPUs, but for it's time I don't think that would class as low power.

It depends on your Chip Version, there also Low Power Versions of VIA C3.

The board I am using apparently only supports Samuel2 cores and up, and did not POST with a Samuel - same as the previous VIA PLE133T board I tried. That seems to be a pattern, I need a different board to test this out.
