What is the lastest motherboard chipset from UMC? Do you have any documentation on it? What were the decisions behind UMC's pull-out of the chipset market? I beleive there was Pentium chipset from UMC, but I could not locate any performance reviews of it.

At least one. UM8886F Seems to be rare though.
Used on BIOSTAR 8500UUR and Chicony CH-890C

As to why they went away. They didn't really.
They bought chunks of other chipset companies (I'm guessing) to avoid dealing with Intel's licensing BS directly.
Also seem to be the actual manufacturer (by way of ITE subsidiary) of some AMD branded chipsets.

The chipset is UM8890. The UM8886F also forms part of the 486 chipset.

O.I.C.
The link for the Chicony shows: "Chipset: UMC UM8886F + UM8891BF + UM8892BF" and the UM8890 is not mentioned.
.
Apparently it was used in some laptops too.

I beleive UM8890 forms the general name for the pairing of the UM8891 + UM8892. They did this naming scheme with the UM82C481/482, calling it the UM82C480.
Those links made for interesting reads. Looks corporate complicated.

I know this thread is a bit old but I do have one UMC socket 5 motherboard. The config is UMC 8891/8892/8886.
Motherboard is a Chaintech 5UBM.

That is very interesting! It almost looks like an ordinary 486 motherboard with a socket 5. Is that motherboard made by PC Chips?

Curious how this board uses the same southbridge as PCI 486 boards, the UM8886. Also curious are the two northbridge chipsets: UM8891 & UM8892. I have never seen such a configuration. Any idea why UMC did that?

EDIT: Same Super I/O as a 486 board too: UM8663

The motherboard is a Chaintech 5UBM. I have the manual but it is very simple.
I like this motherboard because it has a working turbo header.

I wonder if a P266 Tillimock will work in this board with L2 cache enabled? That is, assuming you have an PGA interposer with supporting voltage levels.

You could always try a powerleap adapter. I tried something similar in my OPTi based EISA dual Pentium system, but the L2 cache could not be enabled.I think L1 was still working, but I can't remember. My system has an OEM motherboard though, so you might do better with your generic UMC motherboard.

I have a Pine Tech socket 5 UMC chipset board - I think it's the last chipset to use the UMC name.

I don't think it was anything special back in the day, but it's great for retro computing. It supports FSB 25, 33, 40, 50, 60 and 66, and multipliers of 1, 2, 2.5 and 3x - what that means is you can run a pentium 1 anywhere from 25 to 200MHz, making for a very flexible dos machine. It also uses 486 type cache, up to 512kb. It will also run with no L2 cache, and you can disable L1 cache from bios. The only downside is the dallas RTC. I tried soldering a coin cell holder in the silk-screened area of the PCB, but it won't hold bios values.

Gigabyte GA586AM also has UMC Chipset.

Not sure why they added a Cache Slot.. because the Jumpers for activating it are not equipped with headers 😀 instead there is some Wire Bridge.

Wait, the UMC chipset supports pipelined burst cache?
