Nothing is more Americana than an Gateway 2000 computer.
This was one of the last computer companies from America.
There height was in 1990’s.

So I found this computer. It a Gateway with a 933mhz Intel CPU.
This thing is built like a tank. Solid steal construction and it is heavy.
Not sure if Gateway computers after 1998 are still considered Gateway 2000.

This is a restoration in process.

I just received this computer so I need to disassemble it, clean it up, add a video and sound card.
And put it back together.

Install win98se and games.

Should make for a good gaming computer.

Update:
New parts specs.
Video - Diamond Viper AGP v550 Nvidia Riva TNTA ( 16mb )
Audio - Sound Blaster Live 5.1 ( SB0100 )
Network - 3com 3c905b-tx ( 10/100 )

Wikipedia says the 2000 was officially dropped in October 31 1998 However I got my GP6 P2 400 in January 98 and all branding was the new "non 2000" logo

Hmmm, I wonder if Gateway 2000 computers bios was Y2K compliant ?
I pretty sure they were not.
I have an old Gateway 2000 486 with Micronics motherboard and the bios is pretty old fron 1992 or 1993.
It only supports a 420mb hard drive too.

Boy, This computer was very dusty inside.
So I took it outside and blew the dust out with an Air compressor.
Then I took a paint brush to it to clean it up even more and blew it out again.
Wiped it down with a wet rag and some cleaning solution.
Took the front cover off and washed it in the sink with soap and water and a sponge.

It cleaned nicely for a white case.
It has a thick coat of white paint on a thick steal case.
Looks good now.

Let is all dry and put it back together out on the patio table.

Upgraded components :

Nice one. I live in Europe there's plenty of Gateway retro systems to find out here.

Yes, Gateaway computers where very popular in 1990’s and early 2000’s. So these are good retro computers of there era.
These where mainly manufactured for the home user.
This is one of the last computer companies from the USA.
Very Americana.

I've got an M-ATX version of this machine that came with a 1.6Ghz 478 P4 in it, interesting to see that they kept the same styling for so long.

Edit - Actually just realized that the ATX chassis you've got looks to be nearly the same metal frame as one I've got that had a 3.06Ghz P4 and Rambus ram, from around '03.

Back for the Holidays.
Time to bring out this computer again.

Let’s see what upgrades I can perform to this computer this year.
I think i wanted to add some fans to the case for better exhaust.

2001 Upgrades:

1) NEW thermal paste. The old stuff was all dried up.
2) NEW Hard drive. Old one died. The NEW one is a Hitachi Deskstar 60gb.
3) NEW Sony DVD. Old one stopped working.
4) 256mb RAM, Thats all that is needed for best game play performance in Win98se.

Still need to add NEW case exhaust fans.

Curious as to how those Gateway cases are to build in? For some reason I like the looks of them.
