ES692 datasheet link, for the information of viewers :

A sample of the chip's GM sound on Youtube, using HUMAN2GM.MID from Warcraft 2 :

It's amazing what chips like these can do on a limited budget and with limited sample storage space. Not as full-sounding as the big boys (Roland/Yamaha devices with 2MB+ sets), I think many would agree (?), but most PC gamers would still have killed for this standard in the 90s. It'll be up there with my 1MB OPL4 in quality-of-experience terms, in fact a specific comparison between those two would be interesting.

I second this. I have one ES689 card and it's amazing how much I can enjoy out of this simple noname card.

You can have a listen to it as BoxPressed made some ES692 samples in here: Re: My Wavetable Sample Thread
It's the same chip as the wavetable on the Compaq Business Wavetable card.

I've got the same in a Clevo pentium MMX laptop, sounds pretty great. The nice form factor of this new card has me tempted though

First E-wave prototype.. it does not work yet... debugging...
If I can solve it, first batch may be available in 1-2 months.

I'm currently in search of 2MB ES982 to dump it and flash the soundbank to standard EEPROM. Could be an interesting base for a successor of this board.

yes !

Sounds great to my ears too - I prefer these budget wavetable options over the real deal Roland or Yamaha options; budget clones 4 life 👍

Life? Don't talk to me about life.

Somehow I seem to prefer this to the sound of YucatanFX. I'll have to get one when it is released 😀
