I am running on WinXP, 2.4ghz p4, Audigy soundcard, Geforce 6200 256 DDR, 1024mb DDR RAM.

I have tried running carmageddon with and without the glidos server, and with it the resolution looks very nice. But no matter what I do I cannot seem to get the sound effects to work. Is there anyway to emulate some sound card that the game will understand or something? I really want to play this game again, really really...

I take it you haven't installed VDMS?

Yeah ok I have read some more and I just did install vdms. The problem now is, it does not work. When I chose run with vdms it opens a glide server and runs the game, very slowly, with no sound. So I'm not stumped at how I get this to work. And I really want it to...

PS- I do not have the splat pack or anything yet I'm just trying to get the game to work first. Also there is no carmav.exe just carm3dfx.bat.

Is there some special way I have to set it up to work with a glide server? Neither of them tell how to work with each other which is weird because you need both and one had to have been made after the other...

Sigh, nm. I've gotten both soundfx and vdms to work and using vdms with glidos makes it slow and crappy. Using it with just the regular carma.exe it works fine, fast, but too fast. The seconds turn into .3 seconds each. Just another real time game screwed up by cruddy time coding. Machine dependence really sucks...

I got my copy from www.glidos.net. The instructions don't mention a whole lot really and I did follow them, but there are no instructions that include vdms. The only thing in the unregistered glidos version is the circling name right? Does it decrease quality in any way?...

PS- Ok I tried it again today without anything and for some reason sound works. Maybe the vdms starts auto now I don't know exactly how it works. Anyway, the time is still a bit fast but it is much more doable now. If I had to compare it to something where a regular second follows the count:

1 mississippi 2 mississippi 3 mississippi

The time I'm getting follows like:

1 montana 2 montana 3 montana

It's been a while since I played is this about what it is suppose to be or should it be a regular second count? I had always assumed it would use the motherboard clock for it, seems only logical.

If running it without Glidos and without VDMSound, then VDMSound will start automatically. Maybe your system has another Sound Blaster emulation.

If starting using the Start button on Glidos, VDMSound will be run.

Actually, its working without anything may be telling us something. Within the sound set up you may have the wrong interrupt for VDMSound. It is 7 for VDMSound, and usually 5 for built in emulations.

If Glidos runs very slowly that can be beause you have the Microsoft drivers for your graphics card, rather than the ones available directly from the chip producers.

No what I did was run the sound setup with vdms and the carma3dfx file with it as well. I set the irq to 7 like it said and the sound came on yet it was slow. Now without doing anything but running carma3dfx from glidos, with the same sound settings, it is running fine and with sound. The only thing I wanted to know now is if it's suppose to be ticking the seconds a little fast or using the standard motherboard clock tick...

PS- Between it running slow and running fine I installed the dgvoodoo files in my carmageddon directory. Maybe that had an impact but I don't know.
