Have you tried to reoil the fan bearing. With the age of the fan the oil probably dried up and became gummy. A good clean and reoil and that fan will be as good as new.

On my way home I stopped at a local PC parts shop, because I remembered seeing some AGP graphics cards for sale and I thought if they have any low-end Geforce FX series cards, I pick one up to test it for Retromonkey. It happened to be a 128bit MSI FX5200-D256 which is probably one of the less crap ones. And noticing the decapitated cap, I could haggle it down to 3$ from the listing price of 17.

The thing is, I haven't stopped to buy a new one and the closest I can salvage from some scrap motherboard is an 820uF instead of 1000uF. These caps generally have 20% tolerance and I'm thinking about whether I should use the 820uF with which I have a 50% chance of overlap. I doubt it'd make a difference, but it'd feel better using an identical cap.

Just bought a pair of Toshiba Portege laptops to make a 2 player Win98 gaming setup 😀 Both working just need hard drives according to the seller, easily sorted. Don't think £34 delivered for the pair was too bad.

No it really is this thin - see attached! No floppy or CD and just 3/4" thin 😀

Good idea ! Got a decent DVM ? if so you test the 820uF and see what the DVM says it capacitance is. If above 820 then put it in and test the card. If works ok I would leave as is or order a 1000uF and replace sometime later.
Think the Only time it might make a difference is when the card is running heavy 3D and drawing lots of watts afaik. added: appears to not be part of the onboard Vreg over by the DVI and just for supply filtering for the ram....

Bought some IC sockets (28 pin PDIP and 20 pin PDIP), 256Kb (32Kx8) EPROMs, 512Kb (64Kx8) EPROMs, 62 0in (2 rows of 31) edge card connectors (8-bit ISA/XT slot), and SN74F245N Transceivers for my Jetway 386/486 motherboard from Digi-Key.

Recent haul - three locations, overall great deals.

The smaller tower has a 166MMX in it (had, I took it out and replaced it with a kick ass 486 SCSI system) and the larger tower has... Unbelievably... a JUKO Nest V30 with 1 Mb RAM and some kind of hard disk controller (JUKO branded) with a 40 Mb hard disk attached to it. It needed almost nothing to get going. I have lots of questions, I'll make a separate thread. It's currently retrobriting - it's got the tinge of the former US president.

XT keyboard is f**ked - pressing enter makes all sorts of random characters appear, it's near impossible to use.

If these motherboards all work, then that lot was a fair deal. A few P3 boards, a P4 board, and a VX chipset Socket 7

This lot will keep me busy for weeks - ALL the RAM checked out, unlike my last haul in which half the 30 PIN RAM did not work.

Overall, I'd say I got pretty lucky. That JUKO computer is going to be fun to film 😁

Yeah the juko V30 is quite a nice find. That should give you some good times

IBM OEM i440LX board. Utterly filthy and very battered. Can't even see if things are actually damaged due to the level of dirt - it literally looks like it's been standing out in the rain for a significant period of time. I'll give it a good clean and rinse, but not at all hopeful. No, this wasn't the reason.

Did quick search on web, it seems to be Diamond Technologies Dt197A30. Cant find original driver package unfortunately.

Also did quick test - unisound detects it as 1688 chipset.
