It's not really a recent find, but something I had an eye out for for a while and literally saved from a dumpster.
It's an old terminal used at my workplace. It was under AC and haven't been turned on I think in the past 20+ years.
But a couple of weeks ago it's time had come to be thrown out.

It was a little dusty, so I gave it a quick cleaning. It was stored under AC which probably saved the motherboard from battery leakage. It's dead anyway so I removed it for safety. The hard drive seems to be dead, but otherwise boots up nicely. I have a 50MB Maxtor or a larger capacity, but maybe less reliable IBM WDA-L80 as a replacement.

Thinking on adding a sound card and a 5.25" disk drive. A coworker offered to sell me an Aztech Sound Galaxy BXII which should probably be a good fit.

Sure, give your tips.
However I'm in the middle of moving or on a break from it because of the holidays and I left it at my new place so I probably won't do it until at least early January.

To dump the bios it's pretty simple.

Download this archive, put its content on a disk

then run "ROMSAVAT.EXE" and it should generate a file which will contain the bios.
Then send us that file 😀

Friend left the country and his father wanted to empty the basement where he had some of his stuff, so friend called me to go and grab anything I want. Heaps of junk, trashy cases, cheapo CRTs, but some decent nice motherboards inside (ASUS CUBX, Abit BH6 and such) and some stuff I remember he had when we were teenagers!
I'm not going to keep these cases (just one nice AT case and a decent ATX Enlight case, rest is junk IMO)...

A leading Edge Winpro 468e (1994) that someone loved enough to give it an over haul in 1996 with:
Diamond Speedstar 64 ISA Cirrus Logic 5434
1GB WD drive
32GB Ram
Evergreen upgrade chip

power supply works after I removed a felt like layer of dust, but I only wish that it was AT standard

That's a nice find. Did any of the insides get wet during the storm? Have you been able to try and boot it and see if all is well?

Holy crap, what a nice find!

I know the practical benefit of having what is, arguably, the best (fastest, latest, most compatible) ISA video card ever made is "limited"... but well, you've got it now, and you not only got it for free, you saved it from being junked!

The Evergreen upgrade is also a very nice find.

Even that ESS audiodrive is a good solid card. Too bad that the wavetable+ROM spots aren't populated... 😁

It wasn’t too wet and amazingly the power supply is still good even though all the vents were clogged with dust I think the dust kept a lot of water out. So much lint. Atleast it wasn’t pet hair. Did a lot of cleaning, removed the battery and it posts, bu doesn’t see ide drives. the 1Gb drive is still good. I’ll try a new IDE controller tomorrow.

It can't see IDE devices.

Looks like C2 near the battery & ISA slots might be missing. There is some raised solder on those pads.

Could that be the problem? Replacement recomendations?

I unfortunately can't help much with the capacitor but have you tried clearing the bios and making sure the bios battery is good. I've had the same issue with a few motherboards not detecting hard drives and optical drives if the battery was dead or Missing.

Thank for the advice. I'll put in a new battery.

Edit: Added a battery, Replaced the IDE cable, and cleaned out the hidden battery corrosion that got inside J2. Now it's booting like the 20 year old time capsule that it is.

Too bad that the powersupply is proprietary.

Still really looks like C2 fell off, but C'est la vie, it boots.

I remember they have immense key-travel, but quite nice to type on. Rather soft touch with low noise. Rubber dome I think?

Feels like it, but high quality I'd assume. Don't know much about old keyboards, dont really collect and havent used any this old since... well, since it was new(ish) 😁

You can always pick up an AT to ps2 adapter and use it with newer stuff. I've seen AT to USB converters as well

Yeah, true, but usually cheap things like that end up costings 3x or more in shipping alone here (Estonia). I'll dig around for one locally, but leaning towards selling it at the moment... we'll see. I'm kinda broke rn so even a lucky 15euro profit is pretty appealing, to be honest.

No, they don't sell anything officially to customers coming in, but I know the owner of that place. 😀
I helped him out in the past with something and occasionally when I pay a visit to his place, he gives me what I find interesting at that moment. These chips where for free, but usually there is a price, depending on the category of the chip - ceramic, plastic, etc. Ceramic chips are about 250 Euro per kg! These are the most expensive stuff. Mainboards or sound/video cards are something like 10 to 20 Euro per kg... These are the prices he gets from the bigger recycler(the companies extracting the gold and other stuff, I guess...), but again, he sells me stuff just because we know each other. It's not like a shop so one can go in and buy this stuff...
I'm just lucky to know the guy!

PS: last month I found two ASUS P3B-F boards and a Voodoo3 3000, but they where badly damaged 🙁 The chip from the V3 was ripped off the board together with the heatsink, because he separates the ALU heatsink from the boards...

I see ads on Alibaba where you can get 100Kg of 486 & 386 CPUs for USD$500. I wonder how many working CPU's you'd get out of that? I also wonder how much the shipping would be. And I know how loud my wife would yell if a truck dropped off 100Kg of Ceramic CPUs at the house, but that's a different story.
