I need help with getting Aweflash to run as my Sound Blaster AWE64 is not working. It gives me a Static Sound. Was told running this software would fix the corrupted eprom but when i run this app i get put in an empty Disk A, but my Floppy Drive is on Disk A and i don’t think it even works and have no empty floppy’s laying around. I put one in but my. Floppy drive is not reading the floppy. I have a USB in Drive D and was wondering if i can change that to Drive A. I cannot do it through the Device Manager. As it does not let me change the letter change.

You can use a virtual machine to access the content of a floppy self extractor . Since I already had this set up, here is the content of the floppy that aweflsh "created" .

The attachment aweflash.zip is no longer available

Virtual Machine? Do i have to use another OS to extract it. And what is in the Zip file download. Is that already extracted?

I used a Windows 98 SE virtual machine running under VirtualBox and ran Aweflsh which did its thing and wrote to the virtual floppy I had defined as drive a: . I then zipped the content of the virtual floppy and attached it to this thread . You just need to unzip the file onto to the hard drive of the machine with your AWE64 and run C4502_C1.EXE (read the readme file first). I hope this answers your question.

No worries . We can't all think of every possible scenario every time . I find that using a disposable Windows 98 SE VM lets me test various things in a safe and convenient environment before moving to actual hardware. I highly recommend it .

I hope this fixes your AWE64 . If it does not, there are some rather affordable Value variants (minus bracket) currently going on an auction site that shall remain nameless from a Russian seller with impeccable feedback (not an endorsement, just an observation). Depending on you location (and corresponding shipping cost/delay tolerances) they might be worth a look .

Best of luck and cheers (written with a full glass of wine right beside me 😀 )

This is more complicated than i thought. I have to use Power ISO to access the Virtual Disk for the Virtual Machine and then transfer the Aweflsh file over, and then mount a Virtual Floppy Disk except it is write-protected. Guess i'll just install that file.

Your welcome but my old harddrive is on it’s way out.

I recommend an adapted SATA SSD, an adapted modern SATA HDD or a CF card, unless nostalgia compels you to use old/vintage spinning rust . 😉

Yes i plan upgrading the SSD’s aswell as replacing the Floppy Drive with a USB ODE Floppy and finally a recap of the whole machine and have already replaced the psu with a modern EVGA 80 Plus Bronze PSU.
