By default DosBox provides 16mb of memory. You can increase that in DosBox.conf but that should be more than enough. Perhaps the game is confused because you have too much? Try decreasing/increasing that value......oh and keep UMB turned off.

Versión from Underdogs works fine for me without doing anything fancy.

decreased memory size?

The games I got this error from are:

Nectaris
some early version of One Must Fall 2097
Star Trek 25th Anniversary

My decreased memsize is, as proposed, 16MB.

16mb is the default in dosbox, and there's a reason why it is like that 😉
It doesn't provide more speed anyways, and if some game should really
not work because of this you'll surely notice and can raise it for that game.

would be interresting to check maybe what happends in those game.
