In surfing for example source code (from I link I got here, I think...)
I came across this "X-Appeal" software, that from the description looks like an X-Windows server for DOS (SVGA).
I've been wanting to install DesqView/X on one of my systems to try a DOS-mode X-Windows server, so this caught my attention when I saw it.
I haven't even downloaded it yet. But I'm excited that I might be able to use one of my DOS computers as an X-Windows workstation, tied in to my main desktop system.

(Or even cooler from my point of view... use it as an X-Windows serve with my Linux-based Pinephone...)

That's fascinating, though I don't know much about it either.

DesqView/X was really professional stuff, whiched I wished I had known of much earlier..
Also like the Motif style. It shares some similarity to OS/2 PM, Windows 2,3 and CDE, I think. It used to be perceived as "ugly", but seeing Win 10 and looking back, it was at least professional and logical.

Here's a picture of a hobbyist's station that's running DesqView in the early 90s.
Really cool, I think.. The user used it to multi-task DOS programs, which was the original use case of DESQView, after all.. 😀

It definitely shares similarity with CDE... as CDE is built on the Motif widget set.

I never really liked CDE - on pretty much everything I used it on (be it Sun or HP kit) it was always dog slow.
