Hi,

This is the first time I've posted here, so first: thanks for a great utility!

Second: I'm having issues with Betrayal at Krondor (v 1.2) running the latest version of VDMSound with the update installed. The game ran fine until the 4th chapter, when it suddenly started freezing every time I try to enter a shop or a house that isn't empty/abandoned. I can enter fights, loot corpses, move around and everything but enter shops or occupied buildings.

Strangely enough, this problem isn't apparent in a previous saved game. Could it be that my save game file has just been corrupted? I realize this is a possibility, but I'm rather hoping that's not the case, since it's a good 20 hours of gaming since I last made a back up.

I've made the savegame file available at http://myy.helia.fi/~a0002049/SAVE00.GAM , if someone would care to verify if it freezes on their system as well. The file is the Bookmark saved game.

System information, if it's relevant:

KT3 Ultra w/ Athlon XP 1900+
512 DDR SDRAM 333
Integrated sound card
GeForce 3
Running Windows XP.

I downloaded the savegame and tried it and it worked fine for me. I entered all the houses that were on the other side of the bridge.

That's odd. I guess the issue has to do with my sound card configuration or something. I'll have to see about tweaking the settings in VDMSound.

Thanks for testing the file!

More strangeness:

I tried to run the game on my second system (PIII-450 256 mb w/ SB Live! running XP), but the problem replicates itself. As soon as I click on a shop and receive the "...the shopkeeper was escorting him inside" -screen, the game freezes completely.

Are there any game-specific settings for BaK that I should be aware of (and include in a seperate .bat or .ini file?)

Heh, I noticed that this old thread is still here. Well, after a year and a half, I'm back to playing BaK. However, the same problem occurs again, no sooner than chaper 4. I tried disabling sound support entirely and tweaked some of the other settings as well (DPMI support), but nothing helps.

Guess I'll just have to give up on the game unless I can get it to run under dosbox or something...

Well, I didn't install the game from a CD, though I do have the original somewhere on my shelves. I simply installed the zipped freeware version. I suppose I could try reinstalling the game, since it's much less a bother than the crippling crashes I've been experiencing.
