I cleaned and lubricated one of my spare floppy drives recently. I did this with different drives a few times, but this time I struggle to put it back together afterwards. May someone hint me in the right direction? I dont know how to put back the thingy that slides the metal dust protector to the side when inserting the floppy into the drive. In which direction the spring (pic 2) belongs? It has a longer end and a shorter one. Both ends are bent in an 90 degree angle. I put it in different positions but it only works halfway. I think it should help slide the white plastic "opener" to the side but it does not.

Another task will be to put back the upper half of the disk "cage". Are there any tricks to ease this a little bit?

The drive is an Teac FD-235HF 7291-U5. I have another drive like this but this has a complete different internal construction.

Had what seems to be the same drive just lying around. I hope the pictures help.
Here's the plastic lever with the spring:

Insert the upper part of the cage (1) tilted into the rear 'guide rails' (or what you want to call them) then lower the front and press the button so the front rails meet the 'nipples' (2) (sorry, I know no better word for this) of the upper cage part for and push them into the front rails:

Thank you very much. That did the trick. Note to myself: taking pictures if entering "unknown" territory. 😉

Did this exact thing to myself recently, and finally got it back together after much swearing and head scratching 😁 Good work with the tips Doornkaat!

Thank you too. I had the same drive, disassembled and couldn't put it together. Your pictures helped and the drive is working again 😀
