I have been trying for hours to reach info on this old compaq computer using the wayback machine.
My idea was to reach the compaq old support&drivers website in order to actually see WHAT softpaqs are the ones that belong to that specific model. (presario 4100)
(i know there are ftp sites with the softpaq collection copied from compaq, and the ftp got a txt with the list, but the problem is that many of those softpaqs sometimes don´t tell you what pc model it is tied to)

for example this is the pc im looking for:

https://web.archive.org/web/19961225221114/ht … odels/4112.html

and i want to know the full list of softpaqs that were released for that specific model, lets suppose you format the harddrive and you install who knows win95 OSR2
You would need those softpaqs in order to get sound working correctly, or getting the modem working correctly or even getting the sound volume wheel from the monitor to work correctly with the operating system.

but so far every time i reach here, its a dead end:

https://web.archive.org/web/20000815053606/ht … /support/files/
https://web.archive.org/web/20000815060310/ht … mpaq.com/falco/

i was wondering is someone here managed to get more info on compaq old pcs like the presario. I hate when they did these types of websites that wayback never works.

Here is your list for 4112: https://web.archive.org/web/19990202195056/ht … 0/pres4112.html

Trick is to go to https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.comp … pport/softpaq/*

Then filter on the presario model you want. Look for pages around 1999.

The SOFTPAQ's are hosted on HP's FTP server and on other mirrors.

For a clean install with the bundled Compaq software, its required as Compaq as far as I know never released the individual drivers on the webpage, only driver/software updates (as softpaq's).

But even without that restore disc, finding drivers for the hardware shouldnt be any issue as it quite common parts. I ran my Compaq Presario 4766 for years with a clean Win95/98 install.

Sorry to necro, but is there a trick for getting the enterprise drivers as well? I tried editing the URL with 'business' and 'enterprise' instead of the 'athome' but got nothing. Trying to find latest bios for my Evo D310 mini desktop to check if it ever supported Prescott.

You need to access the Wayback machine at a way later date than 1999 which was given in the link above. Your machine must be a s478 from 2001/2002 I recon.

I was trying to use this URL

Which afaik doesn't contain a specific time.

I figured there should be a way to browse all indexed pages for the enterprise products in the same way!

Vetz is correct that you need to search around the time the computer was released and early 2002 was Good !
Evo D310 is listed here: http://web.archive.org/web/20020210140932/htt … /support/files/ under Evo Desktop.
The there is D310 Microtower, desktop and Slimtower.
Choose desktop and With choosing Win98 I get this: http://web.archive.org/web/20021017213232/htt … ate/4_4377.html
so then right click a driver + open in new tab and you will see the SP number to search for.
If I choose Evo D310 desktop and XP it gives me http://www.compaq.com/support/files/evodeskto … te/63_4377.html
so 4377 is the page criteria.
Choosing Micrtower and XP it gives an error but returns http://web.archive.org/web/20011217164400/htt … te/63_4378.html
so then using http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.compa … es/evodesktop/* and using 4378 as a filter gives me:
win98 drivers: http://web.archive.org/web/20020722071343/htt … ate/4_4378.html
win2000 drivers: http://web.archive.org/web/20021017213251/htt … te/20_4378.html
bios: http://web.archive.org/web/20021115202211/htt … te/24_4378.html

If I use 4377 as the filter it gives me redirect to HP on 3 of the pages:
http://web.archive.org/web/20021115202218/htt … te/63_4377.html
http://web.archive.org/web/20030502212748/htt … te/20_4377.html
http://web.archive.org/web/20030830022223/htt … te/64_4377.html
http://web.archive.org/web/20031206160606/htt … ate/7_4377.html
<It appears the microtower/mintower/desktop all use same motherboard and drivers>
Using that info above you then can find the softpaq # and search as Vetz said !!

example: on the Win98 page: Audio: right click the 5.12.01.3501 A and open new tab, it shows Sp21181.exe .
It has a note: "NOTE: For Windows 98 (Gold/Retail), please obtain drivers from SoftPaq SP15083."
A search of that SP15083.exe gives this: https://ftp.zx.net.nz/pub/archive/ftp.compaq. … /sp15001-15500/
and scroll/search and behold: https://ftp.zx.net.nz/pub/archive/ftp.compaq. … 500/sp15083.txt
and https://ftp.zx.net.nz/pub/archive/ftp.compaq. … 500/sp15083.exe
Just an example. edited a boo-boo and added: many times a Compaq archive will open up but if not then use the wildcard search for the page number as described above....

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Thank you so much! This helps a lot. I will have a good look at this when I'm home (at work now).

(Funny it seems there are BIOS updates for the 686O2 ROM but it seems there are 2 versions of rom chips and it happens I have the other one!)

Wow! Thanks so much! How do you even find this? Are you a wizard? I like to think I'm a proficient Googler but for the life of me I could not find this information.

It's a shame this is the last BIOS for this system though. It seems it will only support up to Northwood.
