i guess the card is as good as GeForce 7950 GX2
though no longer win9x support 😉

This thing runs like a Cadillac. It idles at 1% CPU utilization.

Nice system, just beware of anything that needs high per-core performance or memory bandwidth, like modern games. With that many cores it isn't going to turbo very high under load. In 2019 I finally upgraded from my 2500K which was overclocked to 4.2GHz (all core) and running 16GB DDR3-2133. It was fast enough for most things but many games would unexpectedly slow down badly at times. Sandy bridge chips are still solid performers for most things, but there are certainly things they struggle with these days, especially when the clock and RAM speed are low.

All of the exploit mitigation required for Intel's "issues" a few years back certainly hasn't been kind to these older chips either... Though I don't think many systems of this age would have gotten microcode updates for them, so that could actually be a plus.

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

How you managed to make the old Vista widgets work with Windows 10?

I've got an Intel i7-9700KF arriving today. My current system is an i5-8600K, RTX 3060 and 16GB of DDR 2666 memory. I figured I'd upgrade the CPU while they were cheap and get another few years out of my main gaming machine.

Modern PC: i7-9700KF, 16GB memory, RTX 3060. Proper PC: Pentium 200 MMX, 128MB EDO memory, GeForce2 MX(200).

Just check VRM temperatures, some Z370 boards sucks.. I saw 120C in load on them.

Bought a 9-cell battery for my main laptop since the old 6-cell died and installed it once I received it.

Has a better battery life than the old one.

This is likely bordering on retro, as over 15 years old, but for the benefit of a modern project ( Not so crazy idea : using a Raspberry Pi 4 with jackd , Zita A2J bridge and jack_mixer to make a software S/PDIF mixer) for which I have been using cheap CM6206 based optical S/PDIF equipped CM6202 devices .
One of them literally fell apart while plugging in a cable, so I decided to try something else .

I took a plunge with 4 ADS Tech Instant Music RDX-150-EF devices .
https://web.archive.org/web/20050302121802/ht … asp?pid=RDX-150
They look better built and have the needed optical input .

I probably should have bought just one and tested it first, but I doubt they could do worse than a CM6206 on the latency front and I have read that they do work in Linux (probably class compliant but no idea on the chipset, might still be a CM6206, 🤣).

EDIT : uses a PCM2902E according to http://www.vinylaudio.net/index.php?topic=124.msg254#msg254 . , so it should work well .

EDIT 2: Or maybe I have just purchased 4 lightweight boat anchors --> https://www.ti.com/lit/er/slaz036a/slaz036a.pdf and https://e2e.ti.com/cfs-file/__key/communityse … 0_USBCodecs.pdf

The "Exceeding Max-Packet Size" is most troubling . It is fixed in rev B silicon, but considering the age of what I have purchased, I will probably have old revs .

Are there no more affordable optical S/DPIF input capable USB devices that are
a) moderately affordable
b) decently built
c) not riddled with bugs
?

Finally bought a new graphics card to replace my now 7 year old aging AMD card.
I especially like that I don't even need to upgrade my PSU for this card, so I save a lot of money =)
Can't wait till my new card arrives! xD

Bought two different VGA USB capture devices: a cheap one that only works with GUI (Windows and a few DOS games) 60Hz 2 weeks ago and a StarTech USB 3.0 capture device that does VGA/DVI, HDMI, and many others.

The StarTech one:

SSDs!

1TB m.2 drive - Crucial P1. Nothing special, basic Pcie 3.0. Replacing a 1TB seagate barracuda storage HDD in my main PC that was starting to make weird noises after 8+ years of service.

Couple of Transcend ssd220s 120GB drives for retro-ish projects.

I bough second Genius SP-HF800X speakers, they are low end and old, but i like them and using for 15 years, have input and outputsm, its some sort of wood not plastic.. but this piece is somehow wrong on same plug like my working model, there is lots of stable load noise just after plug them.. something wrong with them.. I wonder if this could be easily repaired or not. i always hate all this strange analog eletrical "magic"..

Update: My friend will try to repair them..
