SOCKET 8 BUILD with upgraded components and some benchmarks
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CPU - Pentium Pro 200MHz 256Kb L2 cache (late 1995)
Motherboard - Soyo 6FA (mid 1996)
RAM - 4 x 16MB EDO DRAM 60ns
Graphics - Creative 3DLabs Permedia 2 4MB (1997)
Sound card - SB Live! CT4760 (1999)
3D graphics - Skywell 3D Magic II 3Dfx Voodoo 2 12MB (1998)
HDD - Samsung 10GB IDE
CD-RW - Yamaha CRW2100

Unfortunately, the motherboard ISA connectors don't detect any sound card. Everything else works fine on the motherboard. That's why i'm using a PCI sound card.

Nice cable management. How did you get those ATA cables aligned so well?

I used cardboard and dual sided tape

I think I need help, that ATA cable is very pleasing to look at from every angle.
How is NT's compatibility with games? I found 2000 was surprisingly y good but haven't tried NT in decades

Windows NT4.0 SP3

I spotted you only have SP3 installed and wonder, why you don't have SP6a?

I am wondering how my SIV utility will do on NT4 SP3 as AFAIK I have never tried it. Please will you try it and post the two Menu->File->Save Local files so I can check and if needed adjust things.

Only tested Glide and OpenGL games. They run slightly faster due to full 32bit OS. The PPro strength. Some old Direct3D games from 1997 should work to.

I only used SP3 because of good USB support requirement. Doesn´t SP6 consume more ram? I only have 64MB on this machine

That is a brilliant idea with the cable management. This system looks fantastic and I bet it'll perform just as well.

I run SP3 on my WinNT setup as well. SP6a makes the system noticable slower.

That´s good to know. I will stick with SP3

Thanks guys, the system works very well, fast and stable. It´s definitely faster than the 430TX MMX233 SDRAM build i used to compare in Quake and Quake 2

For comparison:

Pentium MMX 233MHz + Matrox Millennium II 4MB + 64MB SDRAM PC66 CL2

- Winquake 1.09 without sound - 320x200 = 51.7fps
- Winquake 1.09 without sound - 512x384 = 20.7fps
- Winquake 1.09 without sound - 640x480 = 17.0fps

Pentium Pro 200MHz + Matrox Millennium II 4MB + SIMM EDO 60ns 4x16MB

- Winquake 1.09 without sound - 320x200 = 47.0fps
- Winquake 1.09 without sound - 512x384 = 23.5fps
- Winquake 1.09 without sound - 640x480 = 20.8fps

Quake II software renderer with no sound mode has higher results on the PPro to.
In 3dfx renderer with the Voodoo2 @800x600 with no sound, it´s 46.1fps (98SE) + 46.9fps (NT4) on the Pro 200 and 40.0fps (98SE) on the MMX233

Baby AT socket7 - Pentium MMX 233MHz + 3Dfx Voodoo
Socket 8 build - Soyo 6FA + Pentium Pro 200MHz + 3Dfx Voodoo 2 12MB
PC Remake - Pentium III 450 + Matrox G400 16MB
