Dumped off a truckload of scrap metal and made $150 and brought home the saddest Socket A machine. "Technically" I wasnt supposed to take it but I asked and they said to swap it for a couple empty 55 gallon drums to compensate for the weight. Pics to follow after I chase the spiders out of it

Agreed! Case will make its way back in the next load of scrap, I wouldnt mind the damage if it had side panels.

Nice looking case! The motherboard tray is skewed pretty badly and the fact that they used the old school plastic standoff's posiibly saved the board from bending, the back of the standoffs snapped off from the steel tray.

Maybe a bit of massaging can get it back in shape enough to make some cardboard side panels or something and it can be reused.

The PSU is a Highvision unit with 145w on the 5v and 3.3v rails combined, and 12 amps on the 12v. Havent tested anything out yet, weather has sucked lately and it's still filthy.

On a recent walk I spotted this out by the curb. It has a 760GM-P34 motherboard, 8 gigs of DDR3 and an FX4130 CPU. The hard drive, optical drive, and PSU had been removed. I put my cheapo spare PSU in it, and it powered up without any issue.

Edit: Loading Windows 10, I discovered the problem - on rebooting after an update, it would lock up, and when you hit reset it would reboot, but not be able to detect the hard drive. I thought maybe there was a problem with the drive I used, so I tried another, but the issue persisted. It seemed like a heat issue, so I used a stock copper/heatpipe AMD cooler I have with fresh Arctic Silver, but it still did it. I swapped in an FX 4300 I have, and removed and reseated the RAM, it still did it. I noticed that the northbridge heatsink, which is large and fanless, was pretty hot. I removed the motherboard, popped that heatsink off and cleaned it and reapplied thermal paste, and that finally resolved the issue! Now running Win10 with no issue.

Weird, the person that threw it out could've at least sold the RAM and motherboard for a decent bit. Nice find!

Fantastic find! I love bulldozer stuff. I keep using them years later for super cheap/free builds.

Last Thursday I found this computer standing in the desk of my IT colleague.
It was doing nothing for a long time and I asked it it had any other purpose than holding two plant pots. Then he said: you're into vintage computers, right? I guess it's a dual core from around 2006, take it and never bring it back. Just take out the hard disk.

what a great, find lost in the wild like that! Nice detective work too, i'd guess the original owner may have become exasperated at the apparently undecipherable random lock ups

My boss was throwing it away any I asked if I could help him to get rid of it, so here it is:

I've already recovered half a ton of dust... And yet I'm only half way. I think next Friday is ready to be switched on the first time in over a decade.

Does the motherboard have a built-in Matrox Millennium (with a WRAM expansion board) as well? If so, I've got to say I've never seen that on an LPX board before.

Thanks all! It is dual socket indeed, just one is populated. And just one vrm as well. And it's got 8 72p sockets (4populated) and no less than 5 power connectors!

It's got a millennium with expansion onboard, plus the same card as PCI errors the same expansion! Full SCSI on the hard drive, CD-ROM and external connector.

If it works I'll try to get another ppro and vrm for it if one comes by not too expensive. 😁

It's interesting to note, they say that it has a "G95 3D Graphics Accelerator with 8MB of WRAM". So, there's a chance it may not be a Matrox, but it may use the same expansion? Or did Integraph just rename the graphics chip to make it sound exclusive to their machiens? Likely the latter. Also, an 8MB Millennium PCI card would have cost nearly $1000 back then. Do you guys think this would be a contender for the most expensive integrated graphics solution in a PC? 😮

It certainly must have been insanely expensive. The only way to make it more expensive would be to install the second CPU and fill up the ram sockets.

I don't think I could imagine something more costly, maybe the it guy can remember what price it was. I'll ask him ifi see him 😀
