Hi, and thanks for the DOS Games demopack.
I installed the pack on my Schneider EuroPC 8088 - 9Mhz with an XTIDE card and 512KB RAM
The machine only has CGA graphics.
So if you want to make a CGA/8088 Demo package here is the games that works:
Jill
Commander Keen 4C - was patched, need more RAM. i Believe this games will work on a machine with 640KB RAM.
MI1Demo
Sampler - tree Lucasart Games - Monkey Island, Loom and Indiana Jones.
Alle other games did not start, either because it needed a 286 or VGA.

I also testet som Sierra DEMOS on the same machine
I testet these demos, but some did not work Se comment. If you need video proof, i have that of all the mentioned working games.
CBQuest - worked fine
KQ1 DEMO - could no be patched
KQ4 Demo - worked fine
LSL2DEMO - Could not be patched
LSL3DEMO - Worked fine
PQ2 Demo - Was pacthed, but the sound was wrong. See link. https://www.jottacloud.com/share/jidnohlmqvte
I testet PQ2 full game, and the sound there was working. But it was something wrong there to: https://www.jottacloud.com/share/5ahdv1caqihm
PQ3DEMO - Could not be patched,

Also i would suggest that you DOS Games packages include alle the free Sierra demos found here: http://www.sierrahelp.com/Misc/Demos.html

One more thing.
The runme.bat uses choice as a command. This was introduced in MS-DOS 6.0
In older versjons ths runme.bat will now work. I suggest to let the file choice.com fra freedos to be part of the package - at least for a 8088 versjon of the package. Choice.com can be downloaded from her: http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/fre … les/dos/choice/

Hi there!
I am gonna have to look into updating the CGA pack with sierra games in the weekend.
In that link you gave it seems there are multiple versions of Choice.com.
Which version would you recommend?

When running the runme.bat it's is created a lots of .bak files. On old machines this can eat a lot of disk space.
Could there be an option in the runme.bat where one could forfeit to make the backup?
Also a selection for deleting all *.bak

I thought there might be some option to patch without making a backup, but not sure which parameter it is.
Running adpatch.exe does not show a lot of available options.

Anyway, I have updated the 16-bit demopack to include a few sierra demos and choice version 44x.
I am slightly confused about those choice versions, I only see .exe and no .com files.

I have made some videos about the OPL3LPT. The last is using your opl16bit demopack running on a 286 12Mhz machine. Not all games are shown, then the video would be to long.
Please enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vS1z5iP85I4&l … oDQ22kIE5aqB6uf

Thx guys. Using such a device on an Euro-PC is very cool solution. Beside that Plantronics also works on EuroPC, so getting patched SC0 adlib-drivers would lead in a really big catalog of working games on XT. On old adlib it was possible to play mod-files...can this be done on OPL3LPT too or is it cover only?

If by mod playback you mean PCM output on the OPL3, I'm not sure.
Communicating with the OPL3 via parallel port introduces quite a bit of overhead.
On the other hand, a simple R2R DAC could do that just fine.

I have tested the OPL3LPT with some modplayer software that supports Adlib on a low end 486 laptop and the sound experience was not that great.
The sound volume is very quiet compared to the standard FM synth sound experience and it will sound quite laggy/choppy if you select a too high sample rate.
It seemed to work fine with a sample rate that was lower than 22khz, dunno if the experience would be much better on slower computers.

EDIT: should note that this was with the TSR driver running, that will ofcourse not work with a 286 or older.

No Problem for me, I have a lpt-switchbox for either opl3lpt or covox.

Still, it would be nice if someone developed a new parallel port audio device that would somehow allow the use of FM music and PCM output at the same time. Perhaps some reverse-engineered clone of the Digispeech DS301 or DS311 devices.
