Just bought a FIC 386SC motherboard, Symphony Haydn II chipset with 256k cache a few Simms and a 386DX 33 fitted. They use a Dallas RTC, unusual for a 386, but means it has no battery damage.

Not sure if the CPU is socketed or soldered on (it's a ceramic PGA), as the images weren't great, so I may need to desolder the CPU in order to fit a socket for a DX-40 or a DLC CPU.

what an amazing place that must be! I have to take chances on there being something of interest and at the right price at a mix of flea markets, charity stores and ebay. Just turning up at a place knowing there is a wide selection of stuff must be great!

A couple of small things for my 97-98 build and a G4 Cube I’m going to upgrade, but perhaps my favourite out of this bunch is the issue of PC Gamer I get to delve into again...

I just received this NOS D-Link DFE-500TX PCI network card for $10 US shipped. While it is hardly a collector’s item, I really like this card and the DEC 21140 chipset for its excellent compatibility with old operating systems including Solaris and Windows NT 3.1.

I’m going to use this one to take my Sandy Bridge Core i3 BeBox (BeOS R5) online. It works perfectly so far.

Soo, just when I've thought I don't need any new hardware, this is what I get:

First, an Iwill SIDE cached VLB controller:

PdlKjIAm.jpg

Does anybody know an exact model name? I'm trying to find drivers/manual, looked through Archive.org on Iwill.com.tw, but no luck.

Second, a complete in box Creative SoundBlaster 2.0. A bit of a bummer that even though this card has a line in, it cannot actually mix it into output (so that it could be used with MT-32, for instance).

Third, Matrox G400 Max. I'm rebuilding my Slot 1 build around this card, been a while since I feel exited about hardware of this period. I've also been experimenting with VGA capture lately, so I'm interested in trying to see whether or not I'll see the famous Matrox quality in my footage.

Next, a DFI 286 racer motherboard. Never realised DFI was such an old brand.

Next, an 8MHz XT motherboard. Also, a multi I/O card with an RTC clock for it

Finally, a boxed NE2000-compatible network card:

I never realized the G400 max came as a dual head card. That's a really nice lot you picked up lots of fun stuff to play with.

I think that was kind of a big thing with Matrox G400 series. It's been done before (even on VLB videocards), but it generally required two separate chips. Here it uses single chip but two DACs, and they are not equal (the DAC for the bottom VGA port tops out at 1280x1024, I think).

All in all a pretty interesting card. Seems to be the only time Matrox actually had a very competitive 3D gaming card on their hands that compared very favourably against Voodoo 3 and TNT2. Still, pretty feature-rich — this particular card was used on a TV station for editing ads (according to the seller, at least). He also had a Leitch Digital Processing System — I assume it came from the same machine.

Nice. I was looking for a G400 max and assumed that the dual head ones were mislabeled.

Dual head was done in even ISA cards.

Oh wow at that A4000/40.. I wish I had a big box Amiga. I have to make do with a souped up A500..

That line has saved by behind quite a few times if my wife went into my computer storage closet in the garage.

Actually she really doesn't mind as long as I go overboard. Now my collection of different kinds of string trimmer lines that one gets me a few glances.
